Rural carriers can reduce the threat of a bad encounter with venomous snakes and other wild animals

All -- "This incident happened in broad daylight, between the carrier’s vehicle and the customer’s house, in a region known to harbor venomous snakes."

-- Another example of how much the USPS cares for its personnel -- having them deliver in a known dangerous area!

-- Just in case the USPS wasn't aware, snakes and other varmints also like pavement and sidewalks because those surfaces are warm, especially in the afternoon.

-- Should one encounter a critter on a sidewalk or pavement, stomp on the surface ( not the critter ). The critter should sense the vibration and hopefully move off. If not leave a 3849, noting "dangerous critter". Unknown if snakes can be repelled by dog spray -- anyone?

"Wildlife activity fluctuates depending on the season. For instance, snake activity increases in warmer months" ( especially in offices inhabited by management personnel ).

Snakes like to sun themselves on sidewalks, too.
And they'll lurk around areas that draw other critters, such as rodents or rabbits at fruit trees and bushes.
Its not surprising they make it to sound like the carrier was at fault .
Ive had a live rat snake in a mail box before. Seen a dead snake in one before too.
