New RCA pay $17.88/ hour

57.6 straight time x $17.88 = $1029.89

40.00001 = $715.20001

40 straight plus 17.6 ot = $1187.23  </blockquote>
I chose door number 3

Trust me it’s a mistake you’ll only make once.  I had no clue that the 46 route I got done under 40 one summer week as an RCA during the lightest week of the year was going to cost me almost a days lost pay, when I went .1 hours over veal.  It’s a rookie RCA mistake.  It’s also a loophole of theft that mgt uses to get a free day out of you when you are close, or they demand you go out to “help” another sub for an hour knowing you will be a pinch over that 40.  I fell into that trap ONCE, and only ONCE.  After what he thought was his secret victorious win, I wrote down a lunch break in my regular assignment time sheet on the day I was requested to help another sub.  Checkmate.  Stick it buddy, I won’t fall for your crap twice.

This was the same postmaster that refused to give me the second Saturday off in an 8 day stretch, knowing that BOTH saturdays are free ones, the first year I was an H route.  Having been a J, I knew you got one, I didn’t know I got both as an H.  I worked it and didn’t gripe about his ranting about someone’s sick day needing me.  I worked it for free basically because I would have been getting it anyway.  Stupid me.  Next time I requested an 8 day stretch off he demanded I couldn’t have it.  Didn’t say a word, let him think he was king shit.  Yeah whatever @hole, cuz I called in sick second Sat, and it was converted to a free sat.  So sick of mgt bullies.  Stand up, or be a victim.

Lol... yep... it happened to me ONCE also... it's like the price of ignorance...  <img title="Confused" alt="Confused" src="https://www.ruralmailtalk.ruralinfo.net/wp-content/sp-resources/forum-smileys/sf-confused.gif" />

Fooled me ONCE, shame on you... fooled me twice, shame on me...  <img title="Embarassed" alt="Embarassed" src="https://www.ruralmailtalk.ruralinfo.net/wp-content/sp-resources/forum-smileys/sf-embarassed.gif" />

"If you’re on a 46-K all week and the hours you actually work would have been under 40, therefore being paid all 46 hours, but your manager had you work Sunday for 3 hours, that would have placed you at 40 hours straight time 3 hours overtime instead of 40 hours straight time and 6 overtime. In this situation you would have worked on Sunday for 3 hours and because of that “work” lost 3 hours of overtime pay, basically working for less than free on Sunday."

A 46K is 54:36 to 55:47 evaluated hours a week. Not sure why anyone would want to do this in 40 hours.

I don't know - ask my sub.  Have tried to explain to her several times over the years why it is beneficial for her to slow down when I'm on extended leave to no avail.  She continues to rush pell mell.  Oh well.  She's the one leaving money on the table, not me.

Never understood the hatred towards Sunday delivery or working over 40 hours a week. I use Sunday as a day to get to 40 hours quicker and easier. With how easy Sunday delivery is, why wouldn't I take the easier path to getting to 40+ hours. As an RCA I work 6 days a week, sometimes 7, with an average of 60-75 hours a week (yes a week not a pay period). Would be easier if I was on a hold down, but I'll take what I can. Biggest problem in our office is that people do not know the contract or the 603, and be it regular rural carrier or the RCAs, we have multiple call-ins every day. This can be a problem when you have 16 RCA's for an office of 49 routes. Just means more $$ for me.

@mcs, guessing you don't have a life. Have you ever tried to put in for any critical time needed off?  The Machine will use you and abuse you and your body. If you plan to make this a 20-30 year when you make REG. Slow down. Because once you make REG the only OT you will see is off the RDWL.

I have 20+ combined in. Started in my late 20's. Hustler at those times. Shoulder pains from excessive large bundle pulls over back seat, tendonitis from little finger to wrist on right hand ( delivery side) now diagnosed with same side issue in elbow. Cases are set up for Right handed people.

No Sunday delivery here.

I've never had my leave denied, also have only put in for leave maybe 4 or 5 separate times, only taking off for really big events in mine or my family's life. Only been an RCA for 2 years, and the average rate of RCA > REG is about 4-7 years at my office. The only loss of money from going regular will be in the first 6-9 years as I start to get the step increases to balance out the loss of OT. I understand the job wearing your body down, inevitable fate of the work. Not sure what a bundle pull is so no comment to make on that (city carrier thing?). As for not having a life, I guess you could say that..only really go out for dinner with friends maybe once or twice a week, see a new movie when it comes out on Sunday, otherwise at home, plus it's just me and my dog. I too started in my late 20's haha (turning 30 this July). Maybe the "machine" just hasn't broken me like it has so many others, or it just hasn't had the time to properly chew me up yet! Maybe I am just uneducated on certain things being that I am only 2 years into being an RCA? I love to learn, teach away!

@mcs...Welcome to pay table 2. The bundle pull I refer to... is from years of delivering out of a POV. AKA your own ride. Most reached over the front seat to pull the next or next set of bundles of mail needed from the back seat to continue delivery. You are obviously all LLV and DPS mail. Any FSS too? What do you have to case everyday? Years ago all letter mail came raw. No order what so ever. 3rd class-presort standard would show up in their own trays not mixed in like today.  Some here can still remember those days of leaving these trays of 3rd under their cases to be sorted when we had the time. Those days there was a lot of it with very few daily parcels. The mail had to be cased and tied-strapped out into manageable bundles that we could work off our lap sitting on the passenger side of the car. Then came a system called Sector Segment for letter mail. This mail was in some form of order for the next 10 boxes on the route, but still had to be cased and tied-strapped out and worked off your lap. Then came DPS almost perfect order so no need to be cased in theory.

All Rural routes then were POV. A lot still are. I whored out to any office needing coverage when not needed in home office in my RCA days. No training, no 4003, here's the case there's the mail. Be back by X time.

Now with a combined 20 in and past 50 the injuries suffered in youth when one was told to shake it off/"suck it up or man up", now are starting to haunt me. The shoulder and tendonitis in hand and elbow are Craft related. Knees are skateboard and ski. The job is all repetitive motion.

By you hustling to beat 40 in a week to get max Eval is one of many things hurting the Eval standards. The Machine used these times to pick away at the time standards effecting pay for all. The IE is supposed to resolve this but we are all still waiting for results and implementation. Have you wacked your elbow off the door latch of the LLV or head by hopping into it hustling yet? Are you aware of the DPS time standard difference between LLV and POV?  The Machine will abuse your body and office management will abuse your mind and spirit.

You are in a good office with a 4-7 year frame to make REG. There are RCA's on this site with 10+ in who are still waiting for the next REG gig. If you have questions post, someone will chime in or delve into the knowledge base of this site and research on your own.

Don't have FSS, but do get DPS and all routes have an LLV. We case everything, dps/flats (all of it), mostly because our clerks have issues clearing the floor before 10am. Average trays of Dps is 4-6, while average tub of flats is 3-5 on a daily basis (of course holidays are way worse, easily doubled). Our biggest issue is parcels, on average I have 110-160 parcels every day. Even today, I had 147 scans. I however do not try to hustle and beat eval everyday, I start work at 7am, I finish roughly between 4-5pm 6 days a week. I have hit my head on the LLV door opening and my elbow on that damned latch! I knew when I started since I had talked to other regular carriers that coming in and rushing just was not worth it, so i go as fast as i need to to stay safe in order to be back before dispatch.
