im currently an rca working two days a week (been an rca a little over a year and half) and i was wondering would it be worth it to switch to pse since everyone says they work 40+ hours a week? If so do i just apply online as if i was a regular person?

only pse s i know are in 2 and 4 hour rmpo's offices.. they can find extra work quite easily.. best of all.. career status is running about 3 to 5 years after p.t.

--  First of all, any other sub-short post offices in your area that you could "farm"yourself out to for extra earnings?

--  Depending on your office situation -- an off with few older regulars nearing retirement age could mean a l-o-n-g time before making regular.

--  Working two days a weeks sounds as if your office is pretty well stocked with RCA's.  If low in seniority -- see above.

"If so do i just apply online as if i was a regular person?""

--  More than likely you would have to resign your position as an RCA and take the test for a clerk position.

--  Back in the day, RCA's could hold "dual appointments", meaning they could do both carrier and clerk craft work.   But like many good things, the dual appointments end in January 2012.

--  More likely to make regular sooner if you go into the clerk or city craft.   From reading other web sites however, CCA ( City Carrier Assistants ) seem to be treated worse the RCA's.  It's from the "internet", so take it with a grain of salt ( what ever that expression means ).

cca's and pse's have no choice in where they work or how many hours. You can be farmed out up to 50 miles. You might be asked to help sort mail in a town 50 miles away for 1 hour. That's a pse life. cca's in my area are farmed to the nearest 100k+ pop. city. So the ones in my office go 30 mi and the ones from that office go 30 mi and so on until the big city gets full coverage. A city carrier may be over 1 hr and you'll be called in to carry 1 hr....50 mi away.

Getting a 204b assignment is a more viable "career" path.
