transfering to another office

WES

Hey ya'll, what is the best way for RCA to tranfer from one office to another office . My son is trying to get closer to home. He is driving 2 hours+ to get to work and there has been a rca quit in our home town 7 miles away and he would like to transfer get there. The Postmaster seems not very helpful. They did ask his present information about where he works now. My son has past his probation period and is currently on L route in present office over a year. This route has longer miles less boxes. Both are K routes. Won't to make sure they don't drag their feet on this . Far as we know no one else has applied yet.

Contact a union rep stat; the PM has the right to accept or refuse the transfer; but as long as your son is an employee in good standing no reason to not accept him.  I wonder if PM already has someone picked out.

WES -- First, the good news:

1 -  To transfer, an RCA must have completed the probationary period of 90 work days or 1 calendar year, which ever come first.  Check!

2 --  A vacancy must exist in the other office.  Check!

3 --  The RCA needs to submit a written request to the other office.

4 --  Per Step 4 ( P-115 ) If the gaining office accepts the employee's request for transfer, the losing office must release the RCA.

5 --  No doubt the new office would gladly accept an experienced RCA.

Now the bad news:

1 -- Your son's seniority will start over at the new office as of day one.

2 --  Per P-115 , the transfer will be effective within 30 days of the notification to the losing office -- so the current office will most likely use most, if not all of those 30 days to see the office through the holiday period.  Which is can viewed as a win-win.   Not much worse that coming into a new office at Christmas time.  And considering the future savings in gas, time, and vehicle wear, it should be worth the wait - IMHO.

Good luck.

Thanks for the information "btdtret"  We are going to send letter but wondering does it need to be certified. Might have to be sent  this way as to get postmaster to act on request. Postmaster is already asking is he going over evaluation on current route. Current route is heavy L route with heavy package load. The route he is on now has not been counted in long time.

WES -- "We are going to send letter but wondering does it need to be certified."

--  To make sure the PM gets it, why not hand deliver it?  Hopefully he can make the trip after work or even on a break.   Probably a good idea to call first to make sure the PM will be there.

"Postmaster is already asking is he going over evaluation on current route."

-- Probably safe to say most everyone is going over evaluation these days, unless they are getting lots of parcel assistance.

"The route he is on now has not been counted in long time."

--  Most likely the route is not properly evaluated.

Post Master at new office sounds like a winner.

Not fully staffed and dragging his feet?

Never met your son, already judging his performance?

Are there any other Post Offices nearby that have openings?..... that might not have Atilla the Hun in charge?
