transferring as an rca

So i work a 5 hour aux route 5 days a week. or at least thats the route im assigned to. Another carrier is on medical leave. he doesnt have an assigned sub(the sub quit). reg carrier is not coming back to duty(doctors orders). So another rca and i have been sharing the duties for that route. I also sub on another bigger route one day a week. technically i am signed as a 5 day aux+1 day sub. I am senor rca. the carrier on med leave is retiring soon. I will get his route when that happens. but currently i am working 3 different routes..and the pm is terrible at scheduling..so most days i just show up and go to the empty spot. Pm claims i have to clock in 6 days a week because of the aux assignment. or take leave(which im not earning any anyway, because im always on the other routes).

So..since im never on the aux route anyway..and id make more money working the route i will get 5 days a week..I was wondering if i could transfer to the vacant rca position. And know what im doing every day. and just officially take it over when the time comes. Is this possible? and what would be the pros/cons of doing so, if its possible?.

I know this is clear as mud. ill try to clear it up a bit.

assigned route..5 hour aux. with subbing on rt #1. so 5+1
route soon to be mine(#2). 43k. i sub on this route 3 days a week

i want to transfer from aux to #2 basically full time. I do earn leave on aux route. but working that 2 days a week maybe accumulates me one day off a month. I have enough leave time to do the things i need to do until i get to full time status.

johnwayne -- [ assigned to a 5/1 AUX, but often working elsewhere ]

-- Get your Assistant District Representative a call. You are losing money when not working your route -- which sounds often.

-- Per the 2015-2018 contract's Article 30.2.G.5:

AFTER completion of the assigned auxiliary route or the primary route assignment, a leave replacement assigned to serve the auxiliary route may be utilized on any other auxiliary route, or serve as a leave replacement or provide auxiliary assistance on any regular route.

-- Things to discuss with the ADR:

- Manglement's seemingly inability to schedule properly
- Have ADR go over past schedules or 4240's to determine possible contract violations - you working elsewhere before you completed the AUX
- Filing a grievance to "to be made whole" for the leave not earned while working other than the assigned AUX ( though actual pay probably more )
- If you have to follow the NRLCA's mantra of obeying a direct order, then filing a grievance when told to run a route other than your AUX
- Have ADR check on manglement's efforts or lack of efforts in hiring RCA's

-- Be sure to be up to speed on e-bidding so you do get the desired route when it goes up for bids.

1st of all... Did mgmt offer the Primary Sub position after the previous sub quit?
Was the Regular Carrier that is out, go out prior to or after the sub quit?

If mgmt offered the primary position & there were no takers, then that may be the end of that. If the Carrier went out AFTER the sub quit, then mgmt was to offer the position AGAIN when it was known that the Carrier would be out on extended leave lasting over 30 days. If none of this happened, speak to mgmt & let them know that they were required to offer the Primary by Seniority. If mgmt refuses, file your grievance on the Contract Violation.

If the Primary was offered when vacated &/or it was rebid due to Carrier being out for over 30 days, then no RCAs can change primarys. It would be considered an “unassigned “ route & a Sub should be hired ASAP to cover this route.

i was simply told that i had first choice of the hours i wanted to work. not that i could transfer to that route. For whatever reason, i did not even think of transferring to that route. Ive been working a 46k for one day. the 43k for 3 days. and the aux for 2 days a week. Plus covering whatever days off people take. Its getting kind of old. transferring to the 43k is actually a step backwards as far as leave earning(or i thought it was). Plus, until last week, I thought the reg was coming back until he retired. but the doc said he couldnt. The sub quit about a month and a half ago. They are attempting to hire a sub, we all know how that goes. Third round of applicants right now.
