Who Should Receive Mail Count Training

Can anyone be a counter during Mail Count or should they have went to training for <span style="text-decoration: underline"><strong>THIS Count?</strong></span>

If they have been to training for the last count, would that be good enough for this count?

Is management exempt from training????? If mgt is required to receive training, how would we know!

Cliff Clavin --  Any counter must have attended "count school".

--  Sorry, no reference, just what has been passed down at District Pre-Count Meeting.

--  IHMO -- with so many changes on going, count school for the current year should be mandatory.

--  Manglement is NOT exempt.

--  Very good question!

--  Start hammering the folks at NRLCA HQ that there needs to be a "certificate of graduation", or something similar from count school.

--  Better yet, give your counter RI's Mail Count Test!!  And see how the individual does.

--  Maybe "count school" should have a test with a pass / fail mark and be published on the post office bulletin board.

I have been a carrier for 25 yrs,  we have 22 rts, 50%  of the carriers could not pass the school, so if you think training school is the answer for non carriers, its a joke. my counter is a very nice person, 29 yrs in the po. she runs a mailer kiosk with one other clerk.  so going to a count school to me means nothing. except for the union saying they are certified.  down already and I have not been counted in 5 yrs!  been humping amazon for nothing

Your DR will know, as the DR attends all training for management.

If you have a question, that's where I would start.

If your counter is not certified, you can get the count thrown out.  Just mention that casually, then sit back and eat popcorn.

Do you happen to have a reference for this? I'm sure one of our counters have never been through any formal training.

I'll see what I can find tonight when I get home.  If anyone else can look today, I'd appreciate it.

In the meantime, call your ADR/DR and find out if your counter is certified.  I know in our district the edict has gone out that unless certified, they are not to touch one piece of mail as it would invalidate the count.

I suspect that there may be a few that have not been to training unless it has been online or perhaps it was done at their previous office several years ago. They know little to nothing about what they are doing and they won't even listen when someone tries to correct them. What's worse the OIC knows absolutely nothing and is in charge.

A lot of the carriers have quit arguing with them because they are going to do what they want to. It's sad.

A retired carrier told me he had received a letter asking if he would be interested in being a counter. The letter mentioned something about on line training. He was not interested.
