Had a service talk today which stated we were "no longer aloud to use scheduled sick leave unless we had documentation for it." Basically we were told you can only use sick leave for a call out or a doctor's appointment that you bring proof for otherwise, it will be denied or you will be forced to use annual leave.

Where the hell do these people in management come up with this bs? ??‍♀️

This seems correct. Sick leave can be scheduled but it should be for appts that you should be able to prove. It’s at management’s discretion. They’re probably getting strict because it can’t be denied ideally. If it’s getting denied, grieve it.

Issue I have with this is what if you simply need something like a "mental health day" Due to being overwhelmed with work and schedule to have a Monday off for example. Do I now need a doctors note for that? Are they going to pay my copay? Seems like they're sitting on a fine line of HIPPA. What if I don't want it to be known that I suffer from anxiety or depression? <<< only one scenario but I feel this is invasive.

We had a similar, chocked-full-of lies service talk.
I will continue to file my leave as laid out in the contract.

I will file a grievance when my rights are infringed.

PM doesn't like it?
That's fair, I don't like the PM.

So, now they want documentation because you had too much butter on the popcorn last night ? People do not go to the doctor just because they had too many chili dogs at the fair. Go to the ELM and there is all kinds of info there regarding sick leave. So pathetic !!!! You can take a month of A/L but call in sick one day and we'll be seeing your picture on the evening news. Need documentation ? Okay, my doctor just happens to be an Aboriginal Medicine Man in Australia. You can bet the PO would be getting the bill for that one.

They're basically are saying/accusing carriers of using sick leave in place of annual leave. Personally I don't see how it is their business as to how I use my leave especially when I earn it.

Management effectively placed the entire office on restricted sick leave without meeting the requirements or following the steps required to do it. (ELM §513.392)

Consider filing a class action for that and then another class action for taking a carriers' right to choose the leave type if they have an insufficient sick leave balance (ELM 513.61)

When are you running for president? You have my vote. ?

Pfffft, just do it.

Make a YouTube channel and make your case. Not a bashing the union case, but a "we can do better" case.

Let's get the 2022 campaign started!
This and you'll be set!
I'm not anti-union one bit. I'm anti-corruption. I care about my union and its members. I can't say I will agree or disagree with them on every issue. I can't say we will even like each other, but that's okay!

I'm not looking for friends; I'm looking for a better quality of life. The later is a desire I believe we all can agree on.

Education is the union's strongest muscle. Union's can be powerful entities if its leaders "beef up" in the library. You've got to have a library worth visiting though. Who wants to visit a gym with broken, disorganized equipment?

Our constitution is exactly that. It's broken, disorganized, and fit for the trash. There are no checks and balances. There is no balance of power. There is no protection for whistleblowers.

You'll read in this article that:

The Labor–Management Reporting and Disclosure Act outlaws union corruption. However, the Supreme Court has ruled that the act’s protections apply only to rank-and-file members—not employees—of labor unions. A union president can legally fire employees for exposing corruption.

Even if union representatives/stewards smell something sour, they risk their neck for talking about it, or not reporting someone else who does. When the NSS (National Steward System) passed in 2010, it was another nail in the coffin for the rural craft. It turned the state boards into little more than party-planning committees. The system is the failure, not necessarily the stewards.

I've been reading and researching as I can (we're all busy and have lives outside of delivering mail). I'm interested in presenting a substitution for the NRLCA constitution. Our current "piecemeal program for change" is ineffective. Excluding dues increases and increasing the salary or benefits of Association executives, what constitutional changes have directly impacted you?

When (what is now) the USA relied on its first constitution (the Articles of Confederation and Perpetual Union), it was a first-run flop. I mean no disrespect to those of that period, or by analogy, the ones who put together the NRLCA constitution we use today.

The NRLCA Constitution is a sinking ship. Substituting the entire thing isn't a 2-day job though, especially when I doing it by my lonesome.

I could be wrong but, in my opinion, if the NRLCA Constitution remains the same, I fear we'll continue with the same sandbagging; the same shell-games; the same goalpost movement, gaslighting, and red-herrings we currently pay for... just with different bodies in the seats. "Government" is not an easy thing to take on, but is abuse the easier alternative?

I may take your advice and start a campaign on YouTube; hopefully aiding in the battle that PT has been hammering away at for years. I can't yet say I'll be nearly as effective, but Ruralinfo started somewhere too. Look how far it has come!

Okay. Time for me to get off the soapbox and pass the mic to Alex!

Among the most formidable of the obstacles which the new Constitution will have to encounter may readily be distinguished the obvious interest of a certain class of men in every State to resist all changes which may hazard a diminution of the power, emolument, and consequence of the offices they hold under the State establishments; and the perverted ambition of another class of men, who will either hope to aggrandize themselves by the confusions of their country, or will flatter themselves with fairer prospects of elevation from the subdivision of the empire into several partial confederacies than from its union under one government.

This is exactly what we need right now in our Union office. People with this line of thinking who aren't concerned with the social games but the quality of life of the people they represent.

Our constitution NEEDS to be rewritten and a new contract between the usps and the carriers agreed upon that actually helps us. I've never seen a series of documents so poorly written as the ones mentioned. Unfortunately the only way that will happen is by unloading the group of uncaring degenerates we have sitting at the helm.
