RCA's need to work 6 days a week?

I'm an RCA who normally works two days a week on the only two routes in our office. Has anyone else experienced their postmaster saying RCA's need to be working 6 days a week? My postmaster, who I trust, is saying they just recently got an email about this. There are offices in more populated areas within 50 miles, which I know I'm obligated to cover if told to do so and are need of RCA help. It's just, personally, I've preferred not to do so as I'm slow to learn new cases and will probably be out late on a new route. Is there a thread I haven't seen about this 'mandate'?

Strange... Typically, mgmt doesn’t want RCAs working 6 or 7 days. Unfortunately, RCAs can work 7 days/week so there is nothing keeping mgmt from trying to do so.

This is a 2 route office with a postmaster who chose to move back to their hometown. They are saying this is a nation-wide (mandate - not her words) for RCAs to work 6 days a week. Just wondering if other postmasters are getting the same emails.

They're saying it's not a local thing, but something they're getting from their superiors. They totally want to keep me around because it's so remote and I have a POV and completely open schedule. I'me just not seeing this thing on the forums about RCA"S being switched to 6 day weeks

Their email should be saying that management needs to hire more RCAs, perhaps adding incentives to make the job more attractive in today's job market.
No, they will just further abuse the subs we have left.
How many will stay?

There have been subs that become extremely safety conscious when ordered to another office. They make sure they are very thorough and do NOT rush in any way. They often require help to complete the assigned route. The managers in those offices often do not want those subs in the future. ;)

That's an interesting angle.

One thing to when you work for other offices, if you find an office that actually appreciates your help, go there whenever you can.

Some offices appreciate the help and treat you well.

Other offices don't give two hoots about you.

If our association was worth its salt, they would demand that if RCA's were mandated to work anything more than part time hours that their Career status be change from Noncareer to Career. Along with that change all benefits that go along with it so that they are equal to those working full time hours!

All things being equal I would love to work 5, sometimes 6 days a week, but they are not. My home office is an 8 or 9 out of 10, the office I'm often forced to work at is a 1 or a 2. Excessively over burdened, micro managed, yet the cases are illegible and haven't been updated in years. They will throw you on a route cold then get on you for not casing fast enough. Getting paid the 45 minute drive there and back? Forget it.

If the post office worked like it should and we had a good union that actually represented us, most rcas probably wouldn't have a problem being sent elsewhere. But being run into the ground a berated for no good reason? This mandate will only further drive away those who are on the fence. I'm the high seniority rca in my office but it's crap like this mandate that makes me look into some of those sweet hiring deals going on now. The main thing keeping me hanging on though is when the economy swings back the other way the po will still be here and a lot of private sector job will evaporate back to where the came from.

If they do t pay you mileage from home office to borrowed office refuse to go back ! They will either pay you OR forget about you !

You're funny, if I tried to pull that they would not hesitate to write me up for not going when mandated. Been threatened about that before. This isn't the thread to talk about that anyway; im just saying if this mandate is true then this will definitely not fix the problem of finding and keeping rcas. There are reasons why my tiny office in the middle of nowhere that treats you right is fully staffed with rcas and the big office with a large population pool to choose from but treats carriers like crap is extremely short on rcas.
