UPS SurePost volume shifts away from US Postal Service, Teamsters say

10 or 20 years ago it was unheard of for a regular to quit before retirement, barring major injury.
Now turnover among Regulars is not uncommon because conditions have deteriorated so much.
10 to 20 years ago a posting rarely if ever made it out of the office, let alone District Wide, let alone District Wide with NO BIDS.
UPS even seems to be able to hire Christmas time helpers.
How many Christmas Time Helpers did your office manage to hire?
Haven’t heard any regular quitting to become UPS driver . Have you ? Maybe for other opportunities, but not UPS driver . It’s been always the case that many people continued education while being employed by USPS . Upon completion they all leave . Some even pursued other professions because of their passion in something. They leave . Some simply for what they think better opportunities—- yes number of these people has increased. And rightly so .

But no . I haven’t heard of any regular leaving for USPS . Not yet anyway. I doubt anyone ever will

Morty would if he could.

You don't understand, the UPS driver is the coveted position at UPS. Everyone starts out parttime at their sorting plants. Work up to fulltime and the best get the opportunity to be drivers.

Unlike our situation . NOONE fulltime in the plants would trade places with a Rural Carrier now.

25 to 30 years ago the fulltime Regular Rural Carrier job was the best job in the Post Office.

Now it is NOT the coveted position in our organization. It is the worst and it isn't even close.

UPS can deliver their own 💩, they got a huge raise last contract. Their drivers in my area are crying how unfair it is not to dump off gurney after gurney off freight boxes. USPS should have never been subsidizing UPS from day 1 anyway.
Yes . That is the idea behind this new USPS rate increase. Let’s see how they end up handling it . My guess is eventually they will comeback to us in different form . Maybe not by same amount but mostly . Coming month or 2 will tell

Is there any way for us to find out what the agreement is between UPS and USPS?

Is it possible that USPS is taking a financial hit so they may poor mouth in arbitration? Is it possible they are going to use UPS to help clean out parcels that have backed up? Is it possible USPS wants to show, the labor we claim should be available to move mail is not true? Is it possible they are trying to scare us?

To make an educated guess is important. However, it only gives you an idea of what to look for. I do not think we or the union have any way of collecting information about what is actually happening. Without this we are left in a poor position because Amazon may have a great deal of influence on what is happening, and they appear to be masters of distracting people from what is really happening.

There is no agreement between UPS and USPS right now . Other than a declared rates for all third parties and where to offload .

And there should be no sweetheart deals or Corporate welfare. If the U.S. public pays a higher rate to mail a package of the same size and weight as a package mailed by UPS, FED EX, DHL, Amazon or whatever, after the U.S. Taxpayers recently gave the USPS 50 billion, that is just wrong. That is essentially the US Taxpayer subsidizing private business.

They remind me of the late, great British Empire.

Funny thing occurred today, delivered 2 more UPS Surepost! Thanks Palmetto! (I'd think it's their fault anyways.)

It takes forever to become a UPS driver. Been with PO 14 years make basically 27 hr. At time and a half I'm still 9 dollars short of UPS top pay after 3 years as fulltime driver. Parttime gets over 25 starting out. If I could just walk over and become a drive,r I'd be running for the door.

It takes forever to get to table 1 step 12 carrier ( top pay ) in PO also . Then you consider 48k situation where 8K actually is overtime pay . Funny thing is you are getting that 48k salary by working about 40 hrs a week mostly . They don’t have this with UPS . If you really want to compare top pay of
UPS with top pay of USPS then divide the table1 step 12 salary with actual hours worked first . Then you will find the true top pay in USPS . Then you can compare . Consider all these things before you
start running for the door or tell anyone to run for the door

Not me!! and 75 dollars overtime "ain't to shabby" They also get 50000 in perks article says so, run if u can

Not sure this makes sense but it makes sense to me.

You can not compare our usps rural "hourly wage" by taking the actual hours and dividing by wage. If I did that it would look as if I am making $53 per hour. That's a fake hourly wage. Some days I am working past my eval pay. Some weeks I am working in the 50 hour range....so it's not being calculated proper. If I were hourly, I would be getting OT and penalty time as worked.

We have 2080 and 2240 as a cap and management should be helping us keep ourselves under that. We help management manage that by the incentive. So of course our hourly wage is going to appear higher when assessed the way described.
Because we get paid off of the rural schedule, not hourly, this is what I do.
I take my actual hours worked divide that by the days I worked in that time frame and come up with a per day average hourly time to complete my tasks
Ex. I worked 442 hours so far and did that in 48 days worked
442hours divided by 49days worked=9.21
9.21 x 5= 46.05. Or a 46k

I am getting paid for a 48k but doing it in 46k time so my hourly rate actually stayed the same and I am helping management manage my own hours without making more overtime. 😃

Ungrateful beasts should appreciate our efforts rather than go all up in arms when we get unworked paid leave through this system they agreed to.

What is that multiplied by 5 is for ? the division is to ascertain actual hourly rate . 442 hrs is not spread out in 5 days a week . There are holidays , annual day , sick days on top of that . The best you can do to figure out your actual hourly rate is add holiday , sick, annual to 442 hrs 9.4 hrs per day . Then divide the total gross amount by that total hrs to reach your actual hourly rate . Then you can go on multiply by 5 if you fill it necessary
