False. A 3971 can be submitted for any time off within 60 days of request-date. Any further out than 60 days needs to be a life event with documentation. This is per contract.Did you know that our union is telling us that we have to fill out a new 3971 every pay period?.. iow,3971s are only good for 2 weeks?
Since when?... anyone else have information in this?.. 35 years I've NEVER heard of this
My guess would be so that management could turn an approved leave slip into an unapproved leave slip. Resetting the clock on approving or unapproving leave.why would you have to fill out a new one every 2 weeks?
did you read the rest of my post?My guess would be so that management could turn an approved leave slip into an unapproved leave slip. Resetting the clock on approving or unapproving leave.
Once a leave slip is approved, the leave is honored. If management does not reply to the leave slip within 72 hours of submission with an answer as to if the leave is approved or unapproved, then the leave is honored. This is contractual.
As gotstamps said, the person who told Haygrrl this line about a new leave submission every two weeks is either ignorant and/or lying.
Please let the "union" person that has told you this to check with their superior union person. Because they are wrong.Did you know that our union is telling us that we have to fill out a new 3971 every pay period?.. iow,3971s are only good for 2 weeks?

Because of this, I think. But I've never heard of anyone being told to submit new 3971s every two weeks for extended absences. My knowledge of what management does with all the pieces of paper is limited, though.a 3971 is a request for/notification of leave.
why would you have to fill out a new one every 2 weeks?
like a vowel, once approved (by either signature or lack thereof and thus approved anyway in 3 days), it's yours to keep.
So, this is what is occurring in the Philadelphia district. I turned in a leave slip for a month of sl after my Dr appointment and the oic refused and denied it and instructed me that I had to go through the postal nurse. Which I did. And management still charged me lwop and denied me my earned sick leave. They told several of us that we have to submit a 3971 evry pay period...My adr said this is the rule...wth..in 35 years, 6 post masters, 12 supervisors and I asked a current 15 year rural supervisor and a retired city supervisors, and NO ONE has ever heard of thisa 3971 is a request for/notification of leave.

If you have a Dr. note you have medical reasons for your sick leave request and your pm should give a reason for his denial. If you need more than a few days of medical leave, apply for FMLA. After that you are to be granted FMLA your pm can NEVER question/talk to you about it again. So, this is what is occurring in the Philadelphia district.
