Asking customers for larger mailboxes?

muttleycrue

Well-known member
I was lead to believe that asking or telling a customer to put up a bigger mailbox was not allowed, way back in my early years as a carrier.
Is this an actually policy? Or am I misremembering?

Would appreciate if anyone could provide policy (if it exists) stating that asking/telling customer to install larger mailbox - or, by extension, a box or shed at the mailbox for parcels - is not acceptable.

Unless the customer's house is beyond 1/2 mile from your route's line of travel, why would you not deliver their parcels and receive credit for your route evaluations?
You can request anything from your customers, but you can only require their box size is adequate enough to accept the average of their daily amount of mail.

That is not the point of my question.

I am looking for a policy in writing if it exists to present to supervision in an attempt to stop an RCA from telling customers to put containers or sheds at their mailboxes.

I don't know of a policy, but RCA is screwing your evaluation. Kindly tell him/her that is costing you and them money. Will only understand when get their own route
I believe the rule that is being looked for is along these lines. Neither management nor craft are supposed to try to alter the evaluation of the route.

I don’t know if the rule was ever in writing. However, the online Stewards Guide seems to be a good place to try first.

Of course it's not the point....sshheesshh.
I get that it's going to affect your eval...but I also understand the RCA point of view, they are just trying to survive, and get home to their families while making sure customers packages are safely delivered. Unless your sub is freaky fast, which I'd guess they are not....you need to help educate them, and explain in detail WHY you want them to take it to the front door.
Dont be one of those 🐝🐝🐝-HOLE Regular carriers that just look for something to get their sub in trouble for, when they should just MAN up, and TRAIN their sub correctly. I was a sub for 9 years out of 23 plus years, and there's nothing WORSE than a jerk Regular that just wants to throw you under the po mgmt disciplinary bus and get you fired over piddly crap.
One of these days when you get rear ended, on your rt. and are never the same, or you have a stroke, and cant work for quite a while....you might be glad you took some time to actually teach your sub what is needed to maintain the rt to benefit you both....that backstabbing you are planning on doing to your sub, well, let me just say, it can go both ways....might want to rethink this, and not CRAP on your plate....you need a sub, so train them right...which you OBVIOUSLY havent....dont blame them for your stupidity... 😐😐😐🙄🙄🤠

conversely, there are subs who receive training (like ALL OF THEM at academy) re: RRECS and the importance thereof, as well as additional training from their regulars and they STILL DO NOT GIVE A CRAP.

because they just want to run like h-e-doubletoothpicks and get the heck out of dodge.

i get it. but times have changed and no one can afford to have shoddy work habits or crappy subs any longer.

THANK YOU. Thank you, thank you. Very much for concisely describing the situation.

You must have had a stroke just from jumping to all those (incorrect) conclusions.
Not my sub. Not my training. None of the other hogwash you have written is accurate either.
Proper customer service (including first and foremost NOT destroying packages to fit them into mailboxes) is paramount. Correct pay for performance (ie, correct evaluation) is next. Coddling an entitled child who openly defies explanations or requests to do the job properly is not an option.

Have you ever met a post that you didn't feel obligated to respond to with a ridiculous long-winded assumption filled rant?

I find tubs/sheds/tool boxes great to be placed at a customer's driveway, because it enables me to scan those parcels for door credit.
If you leave parcels for customers in any of those places you should be scanning "Left at garage or OTHER AT ADDRESS" That scan gives carriers door delivery credit.
You certainly should NOT be scanning "In/at mailbox" because that scan does NOT give you a dismount credit.
That being said, more power to any sub that can garner customers to place other delivery areas to speed our days up while increasing our evaluations.

One side note the container, shed whatever should be minimum 10 feet from mailbox. Have several customers who have kids and a building by driveway for them to wait for bus. Got the go ahead to place parcels there.

You must have had a stroke just from jumping to all those (incorrect) conclusions. 🤠 Nope! I'm good, and still perfectly healthy
Not my sub. Not my training. 🤠Ok, then who's business are you sticking your nose in??? None of the other hogwash you have written is accurate either.🤠Welcome to America where free speech rules.

Coddling an entitled child who openly defies explanations or requests to do the job properly is not an option. 🤠 I wasnt aware the usps HIRES children, I could be WRONG, but maybe you are just being overly dramatic.

Have you ever met a post that you didn't feel obligated to respond to with a ridiculous long-winded assumption filled rant?🤠 Yep! Sure have, but they have to meet certain criteria, as in being TRUTHFUL, INTELLIGENT, FACTUAL, and well put together with accurate, and plentiful information with which to help us all give appropriate responses to people that really need answers. Your comment was unfortunately lacking in most of those.
P.s. I've always enjoyed most of your comments, but I've also worked for some real piece of crap carriers too, and maybe your comment just struck me wrong. I get subs arent helpful, or even worthwhile sometimes, but they are also human, and deserve the same opportunity you, and I got before we became regulars. It's my opinion, and if you dont like it, dont read it. Wish you well, and my response to your comment is above. 🤠
