Rural mail carrier arrested in Culpeper County mail‑theft investigation

How dare I round down to $20 from $21.89. ..
What $1 Then Buys Today=
2000 51.5 cents
2010 65.3 cents
2015 71.0 cents
2020 77.5 cents

You say Table 1 let's say you where hired in 2008, starting wage was $18.31 per hour. 2010 was $19.45 an hour
RCA starting wage in 2026 should be $29.97 per hour to keep the same puchsing power of 2010.
$21.89 is equivalent to $14.21 per hour in 2010.
so sorry for rounding up from $29.97 to $30.. are you ok boomer????
Not a Boomer, Gen X. I started in 2005. I am thankful for what I have & work hard for what I can to make things better for others coming up the ranks.
Most non-skilled jobs start between $15-$20 here & this is no small town. If you don’t like a job or it’s pay, go find another that pays better or makes you happy. I have held a lot of jobs before the Post Office and none paid as much as this one does, even in today’s economy. If I didn’t like a job or felt it wasn’t paying enough, I found another to take its place. I’ve also been fired from a few & dealt with lay-offs. This job is by far the best one & most secure which is why I stayed. I wasn’t looking for a career, just something to do to keep busy. I gave it a year to see if I’d like it and never looked back.

That $1.89 you so easily omitted is $151.20 a paycheck for subs that are paid 40 hours. Another dollar gets added at 3 years as RCA. Most subs in my area work 4-6 days a week. I’d say it makes a difference.

Did anyone click on the rest of the story with the link (dumped mail) where it showed postal dweebs out there, one dressed in a white dress shirt and latex gloves picking that mess up that you couldn’t make heads or tails out of and they said they intended to see it was all delivered. Here’s your water bill & tax refund from 3 years ago.

I delivered and returned mail that was 10 years old from another carrier hiding it in business lockers. technically, that mail is owned by the recipient or the sender and, as such, a good faith attempt must be made.

I was just thinking of the pieces that looked like they came a lake bottom & unreadable.I always love delivering mailers & even political ads past the event date because it shows us in our best light.

I delivered a birthday card, 7 years out of date, from a deceased parent to a son. he said it had a $20 bill and a note from his mom.
he said it actually meant more to him to get it that late than on time in that instance. and then he said...but, I still need my bills on time if you can handle that🤣
thankfully, that customer was awesome. not so many are understanding of receiving a certified from IRS late that was LEFT in someone else's mailbox.

got to love the bare minimum, fast carriers.

Spent time during a Basic Training cycle break in the late 80s dismantling old metal Soldier individual lockers and installing newer replacements. The 3 drawer inserts had to be removed by popping rivets and found all kinds of stuff that slide down the cracks including pieces of unopened mail from the 70s. Nothing this old though.
