The engine is probably worth more than the whole van is at this point unless it is super low mileage. Be thankful your VMF keeps you apprised of the repairs. We hear nothing at all about our vehicles until when and if they show up again, and we don't know what was done unless we can see it.
Truck driver backed into my Metris about 3 weeks ago and damaged the left quarter panel and the lower front bumper popped off. Sent to VMF and was there for about a week. Truck driver this morning said they paid the bill of $4000 and he personally had to shell out $1700 of that back to his boss. That's an expensive panel on a crappy vehicle.

Lord have mercy! When the carriers or VMF themselves damage stuff they zip-tie and ductape it back together, when someone else is footing the bill they rake them for every penny!
last time mine came back with a cracked side mirror. how do you crack a side mirror when you never took it farther than the parking lot?Lord have mercy! I've checked some of ours and found them over 2 quarts low before. If we hadn't added oil ourselves who knows how long they would have lasted like that. VMF doesn't do any consistent service and of course they can't afford oil change stickers so we can keep an eye on it.

We are not allowed to open the hood on any government vehicles. They claim it is a warranty issue.
Well from what I know and person I know who worked in VMF, the issue is once SHOCKINGLY MANAGEMENT.
He just retired and told me a story about lot of engine blowing up lately. They changed programs on computers that was schedule of what vehicles were to come in this week and get maintainance done. Well he said the program instead of staying on the current schedule, the program started back over at the 1st month (NOT SURE WHEN IT WENT INTO EFFECT, didn't ask for month).
Example: Let's says July was the 1st month it went into effect. So the vehicle that were suppose to get regular stuff done in July, Aug, & Sept, they got pushed back from July by another 9 months. So some of those vehicles went 16-18 months without any regular maintainance. Theyt told management and management told computer is right and you will do what it tells you. They were like we will obey.
I'm not surprised by this at all! I know our vmf was saying that they weren't ALLOWED to service the vehicles even tho the vehicle says a service is due! Anytime I got a message that fluid was low they would put some in but I'm still thinking the oil never actually got changed.

Hey it's not like they have to deliver mail in them, why should they care?
mine was serviced probably every 7500-10k miles. 110000 miles on it. not nearly enough for the kind of work we do.
