Bridge closed/ detour

A bridge recently closed on my route. The funding still has to happen before a repair will be planned. I can gain access to this road that is closed off earlier in my route. The detour is 10 min to, then 10 min back. Can management change the order of the route so I can deliver that area earlier in my route to save time and miles? Im currently not doing it that way because I fear it will effect my rrecs. If it can be done, how would I go about telling management how to do it?

Mgmt can tell you how to serve your route, especially if there is a savings to the Post Office.

If there is a safety issue then that argument could be used to serve the route the way you’d like, instead.

After 30 days of any detour your route is changed to reflect the extra miles that you have to drive, and you are back paid for the difference (if pov). If the change moves you to the next hour you are back paid for that also. The caveat is the the additional miles plus your route miles must be more than 40 miles to receive pay for the deviation. Even if in a government vehicle any additional miles after 30 days makes a base hour change to your route which can put you up to the next hour of pay if you are close enough. Do your mapping and LTM/DPM immediately to reflect these new added miles to your route.

There is this from Article 9 of The Nat'l Agreement ;

12. Temporary Route Deviations

Any temporary route deviations of more than thirty (30)
calendar days duration shall be added to the evaluation
and the salary shall be adjusted accordingly. Upon
termination of the deviation, the route evaluation shall be
adjusted to its former status. All salary changes will
become effective at the beginning of the first pay period
following completion of the first thirty (30) days of the
detour and at the beginning of the first pay period after
the deviation is terminated

Please make note on DAY ONE of the temporary deviation in the remarks section of the 4240 so there will be documentation.

REMARKS
(Explain any failure to serve the entire route; include miles actually
served. Also, state cause for any deviation from schedule. If regular
carrier was absent, give name of relief. If more space is needed, use
reverse of this form.

This also "helps" should there be an incident and you are NOT on the official line of travel. Same for any RCA serving the route.
