Police report?

You guys are the best!

I will be calling my PM tomorrow to see about reporting the incident. If I have to, I’ll call myself. I already talked to my regular and she was awesome about it. She has my back and was upset that they didn’t send anyone out to finish my route. I did tell her it was ok because I needed the hours as this is the last pay period before I go on evaluated time. I did write out a statement with details and handed that in to the supervisor on duty. I took a picture for my records but I’ll never forgive myself if I don’t report this guy and he does something to another person. Sometimes I’d rather sweep things under the rug and move along but I can’t let someone else experience what I did.

I’m doing better now. I was really worried about working again if I’d have some kind of fear about delivering but I did Amazon today and if anything was just more cautious. I made sure I always parked in a way that makes for a quick escape. I’ll never park like I did that day again! I value being a wife and mother and my life is too important. This whole experience has been eye opening for me. I’m really hoping that my PM does the right thing but we’ll see. I’ll try my best to update you all when I can. I don’t always have time as I do have a toddler?
JFT, , thank you for posting about this incident, many people have learned from what happened to you, even if it's something that just escaped their attention in the past, like how to park for safety. I appreciate you.?

So on Monday I sent a text message to my PM and asked for either police involvement or Postal Inspectors and he said he would contact the Postal Inspector. I made sure to send it via text to have documentation.

Does anyone know if I will be contacted by the Postal Inspector? I’m wondering when I should follow up with my PM to verify that he did get them involved. Also, does the Postal Inspector inform local law enforcement of the situation?

Thanks

If you go to USPS.Com... there's a button on the bottom of the screen where you can contact the Postal Inspectors yourself... up to you... if you wanna leave it to your PM, that's okay too... what did they say about delivering mail there??? Has delivery been suspended???

Btw, Postal Inspectors are "law enforcement"... they carry badges and guns... just sayin'...

Each time you contact postal inspectors they need a written statement from you. (They have yet to ask for my cell pictures or videos.) The first time I contacted them I detailed everything creep did that I could recall, per their request.

In my experience I'd say that's an "it depends" type of scenario.

If two inspectors can go together, they might just go and try and talk to the guy. If only one inspector can go, (or the resident has a felony record) he'd likely call for a uniformed backer from the local police to go with him. If they pin him down, and think they've got the job accomplished, they'd likely document this, tell your PM the scoop, and that would be the end. If they miss him, or think he's a loon, I'd bet they pass that on to the police brass for that particular area as a "head's up".
The best case scenario? Your guy has a warrant for unpaid tickets, fines, other charges, and they can bring the police, then haul him to jail after the interview. Its surprising how often the "warrant God" comes to the rescue with these type of people.

From what I've heard over the last few years, the Postal Inspectors were so burdened with stolen mail, that the local police are now are working those things, which seems odd to me. Guess they are using state theft charges rather than Fed statutes. Lots of mailboxes, and blue boxes being hit looking for checks to forge. We used to love being able to say "Mail? Darn it, you gotta call the Postal Inspector."

After thinking about all this stuff I just have to add the tremendous advantage the Feds (like postal inspectors) have when it comes to getting a defendant into court. Federal court is as different from state courts as can be. State courts are chaotic, noisy, a tad informal at times, with sleazy lawyers and thug clients hanging all over the place. Lots of dickering to get cases pleaded, dismissed, etc.

Federal court is like walking into Oz in comparison. As formal and quiet as Buckingham Palace. The judge sits way up high. The lawyers stand behind a podium and don't move or speak unless spoken to. That judge has a life appointment, and does whatever he/she pleases. No lip, no dramatics. The couple times I was there, the judge asked more questions than the lawyers.
Now, its not likely this pud from the mail route will end up there, but anyone that ever does will never forget it.

Thank you for the info. I was not aware of that. I will most likely speak to my PM and if nothing was done, I’ll contact the Postal Inspectors myself.

Well, the local police in our area used to be pretty on top of situations like this but with the current homeless and drug addicts running around I’ve noticed a lack of police presence. It used to be you couldn’t have a tail light out without being pulled over but I rarely see traffic violation stops any more.

My PM said they will suspend parcels. The guys mailbox is about 1/4 mile from the house. I’m ok with that but I’m nervous about pulling in at the box on Saturday. I have a made up scenario in my head where he’s hiding behind the shrubs, waiting for me. I’m prepared though! ?

I did write a statement for my PM so maybe that would suffice?

Are you planning to go with "do you feel lucky, punk?" or "go ahead, make my day"?

Perfect, if they need more, they'll tell you.
Every time they visit my creep I give them a written statement first; supv faxes it to them. (I call them, write a statement + give it to supv. I put a copy in my creepy stalker log.
You're naturally going to feel anxious going back there again. It's like opening a mail box the day after you got stung by wasps there -- don't want to open that box! Remember, you can always drive away, I wouldn't service the box if he's out there.

Oh yeah those damn wasps! I had no idea of the stuff carriers had to deal with before this job! I have yet to be stung but they are in so many of my boxes. Fun times every day I’m working.
