Manglement pushing too hard.

I have been at my office for just a few months. Manglement insists that we be back by evaluated time....even on a Monday with 2 sets of boxholders/circulars and 195 packages and spurs, 5 certs and 2 express. Then on top of that, they will split another 9 hour route between 2 or 3 of us and say that we have to be back by 6pm. (we start at 7am. Don't have the routes down completely so it takes a little longer to case). Also don't help the others if you get done early. Plus the other day....supervisor said that I would be working off the books after 6pm. I told them that a call to the union would fix that. The supervisor back peddled and said that of course we wouldn't work off the books, but the threat was there.

AND......if you get back really late (was 9pm the other day) you get written up. Not sure what for....hauled butt and didn't take even a pee break.

AND.....supervisor asks subs/ptfs what time we plan to be back......before we even begin casing mail. Then they ask again before we leave. Then the phone starts blowing up between 2pm and 4pm wanting an exact time we will be back. Not an approx time......an exact time.

This office will punish if you don't fall in line with managements wishes. Work your off days. Sundays. I just worked a 64 hour week. 60 the week prior. Gonna be a great check, but I am tired.

How can you stop the manglement from applying so much pressure? 3 subs want to quit....and they have been working there for a couple of years. I am a PTF. If these people quit, I will be on my own covering everything.

My bones hurt.......need a break.

Bottom line is that for this management team we are not fast enough, good enough, smart enough......and they could care less if anyone quits.

I am 10 years in, and not going anywhere, but I am seeing these other people on the brink. Hurts my heart for them. Me...I am just numb to it.

Maybe I am rambling here, but someone might be able to give me an opinion.

Thanks for letting me bend your ear.....or in this case, bending your eye.

First of all, never answer the phone. Slow down, but don't screw off.

Have a note pad. Every time they bother you write it down. Make sure they see you do it. If they write you up for anything grieve it.

If you work over 40 everything is paid actual time. Take all the evaluated time and then some.

You saw how they backpedaled when you threatened to call the union. Call the union. That might straighten them out. They are only being assholes because you let them.

A reasonable answer to return time would be the routes evaluation. If they add another route, add that to it. If you are on a 9 hour rt and they add 3-4 hours of your assistance to another route, tell them dispatch truck ain't happening without help. If you throw all their problems back at them no discipline can stick. Good job pushing back. They may not like it, but they will stop messing with you as much.

I am pretty outspoken. Ok....I have a big mouth most of the time. I am tired of talking to them and getting nothing accomplished.

I will take your advice about writing everything down.

They will just send alerts on the scanner all day if I don't answer the phone.
If they send alerts on the scanner file a grievance. Severe emergencies are the only allowed scanner messages.

You are all being abused. Subs who want to quit might want to shoot an Email to PMG to
tell her of these horrible tactics. (She has said she knows supervisors are not treating
non-career employees properly.)
Maybe supervisor(s) will get some non-union education.

Wdopgal, there are many contract infractions in the things you mentioned above, each one you could grieve. If you are ever "asked" to go into the manager's office you need to say, "If this conversation is, or can lead to discipline, I want my union steward present."
In this way if the conversation continues you can receive no discipline. Whenever you are told to work a route under the evaluation on a heavy day tell them it is not possible. If you curb your wheels, pull the brake, take off your seat belt , take the key, get your scanner, get and carry a 50 lbs. dog food box up to the door and return to your vehicle, you spend much more than the 10 seconds your evaluation allotted or pays you. Do they want you to work UNSAFELY? There are many examples of how your managers are managing incorrectly, like the one Deer Smearer listed above, print out each one from this site and post them on the bulletin board, or your case. Let them know, that you know they are wrong. Call your district rep. (you obviously have no local steward) and explain the mess to them, and that you are ready to fight to keep sanity in your office and to keep the good Rca's that are ready to quit because of how they are being treated.

Just finished search, couldn't find anything but:

USPS
475 L'Enfant Plaza, 25W
Washington, D.C. 20260

Phone: (202) 268-2000
Fax: (202) 268-3488
Email: U.S. Postal Service

In the past, I used contact information sent to me in District's Employee Magazine. It provided an email address for the district manager.

I thought PMG's email would be more accessible!

As much as I hate to say it... it'll never be any better than it is right now... all of the better times are in the rearview mirror now... we're on the slippery slope, and already well down it, there's no going back up now....

Those that can jump ship... the sooner the better... those that have to stay for the long haul... sure hate it for ya... ?

This is exactly what had been going on for a while in my office when I quit at the end of February. And from what I hear, STILL going on. There are now like 10 subs to cover 42 routes. Management still not carrying any routes. Just spreading the continually heavy workload among the poor souls that are left.... I don't think management will open their eyes unless maybe ALL the subs quit?? I don't even now if they would then.... So sad.

Wsopgal et al -- "I have been at my office for just a few months. Manglement insists that we be back by evaluated time....even on a Monday with 2 sets of boxholders/circulars and 195 packages and spurs, 5 certs and 2 express."

-- Time to drag out the paper work for the latest count, especially the Form 4241 ( Rural Delivery Statistics Report ).

-- Should be easy to point out to manglement the daily average of letters, flats, box holders, and PARCELS.

-- Politely request manglement compare what you have for the day as compared to the count averages.

-- Politely ( or otherwise ) remind manglement the evaluation is based on the count data, not what the number of items the route got today.

-- You could throw in a: "It takes what it takes to run the route SAFELY." or "I'll be back when I get back." and "Have a nice day ( go bother someone else! )

Our manglement actually says..."I don't undersstand why you cant get it done by 6."

unfortunately I work out of the plant. No dispatch time.

sounds like a plan. I do want the subs to stay. They are really good. I will fight for them and myself as well. Thank you.
