How to receive training mileage pay?

It has been 4 weeks since I completed RCA training and I still have not received payment for the mileage. It is a pretty good bit of money since I had to travel a long way for two weeks. I turned in my mileage form to my supervisor on May 1st. I resigned on May 8th. last week I called the supervisor and asked her about it. she told me that she has my form and that all new employees are assigned a manager to handle the mileage pay. she also said that I resigned before I was assigned a manager , so now she is trying to figure out what to do about my pay or if I will even get paid at all. They can't just not pay me can they? I have tried calling the HR shared service center about this but I cannot get through since I'm no longer an employee. I'm having a hard time trying to find who else to talk to about it. What can I do? thank you.

You should receive mileage for training whether or not you are still employed, as long as you put in for it before you resigned. Amount will not be the total mileage, however. The formula is: mileage one way (home to training location) minus the mileage from your home to your assigned office times 2.
So if the distance from your home to the assigned office (one way) is 10 miles, and the distance from your house to training is 45 miles (one way), then the mileage that you would have submitted for would be: (45-10) x 2 or 70 miles for the one day. You would do this for each of the days you went, and figure it the same for any other training location, based on the distance to it. Your assigned Post Office station should be the one doing the paperwork for this....that is how mine was done when I was hired. As far as I can remember, the Postmaster or Delivery Supervisor can put it in.

Maybe you should email your senators or representative. You don't have to worry about retaliation. I would love to see them get in trouble for jerking the carriers around.

According to the Post Master General Non Career employees that voluntarily separate, resign, quit etc., are receiving exit interviews to determine why they quit, to hopefully improve retention of Non Career Employees.

Did you receive an exit interview yet?

If not perhaps we at Rural Mail Talk can conduct one for them.

Obviously getting paid promptly for work done was a problem you encountered, what other problems did you experience that led to you resignation?

Good Luck....only took me two years to get paid for it

I know this is long and I'm sorry.
I haven't had an interview. No contact at all from them. I signed a resignation form on may 8, and wrote on it all that happened as to why I left. I really was heart broken because I wanted that job. I received my regular pay on time, it's just the training mileage pay I haven't received. It's $ 795.00. My reason for leaving is I wasn't trained properly, might as well say hardly at all. No one ever told me how much training I was supposed to receive . I went to the office for case training for 4 days, 2 hrs each day. I don't know if that's the amount of training time I was supposed to receive. But.. the regular wasn't there for 2 of those days and a 1 yr RCA replaced her. He didn't train at all . He just wanted me to watch and wouldn't let me do anything. At this point, I had total 4 hrs case training. I didn't learn about marking the packages, marriage mail or any other stuff like that . On the 4th day, I had to come in at 1pm and do the route in the truck, 2 rows. When I got there, everything was cased. The regular was back this day. I told her I wasn't trained while she was gone. She said they wanted her to help out at another office those 2 days she wasn't there. I don't know why the RCA who was with me didnt do that office instead of the regular. i had never been in the truck before, except for shadow day. i didnt learn anything. A CCA had taken the truck I was supposed to use, I had to wait an hour for them to return. Regular took about 15 minutes to tell me how to load the truck, how to place the trays, etc. I had 3 pages of the route list that showed each road I was supposed to turn along the way. 665 boxes, 53 miles. There was nowhere to put the pages in the truck, so I had to hold them while driving. The only time I was in the truck before this day was about 20 minutes on the road during LLV training. Some mail boxes didn't have numbers, some were on opposite side of road, numbers were mixed up, etc. I kept getting lost. I know we're not supposed to back up, but that's all I could do. Office kept calling asking where I was, and to just keep going. At one point I told supervisor I needed help. Someone came and helped deliver. Then, I was told I had to be back at office by 6:30pm. I brought a LOT of mail back. I walked back in crying and exasperated, and she laughed in my face. She jumped all over me, saying we don't bring mail back. She asked me why I did, I told her that was my first time in the truck, I had no training. She said that's no excuse. Then she smiled and said 'you'll be back tomorrow, right'? I smiled and walked out. I resigned next day. is there really a manager assigned to everyone to handle mileage pay ? And, can they just not pay me ??

You were terribly abused.
We have had abused subs placed in more friendly and professional offices when this type of thing happened to them. Is there a union rep you can contact?
You may like the job with proper training, time, and a manager with some sense.

I'm so sorry they did that to you.

Would I have a chance of being rehired ? I have applied for 2 other RCA openings in smaller offices that I'm familiar with. Immediately after applying, I had to do a virtual assessment, 474. For both of those, the rating was 'ineligible'. I'm wondering why, because I passed it the first time I took it. I have no idea who to talk to about it.

You have nothing to be sorry about.

You were stuck with a boss without the knowledge or temperament to do their job effectively and most likely to lazy to take the time to supervise your training to make sure it was effective and fruitful.

Unfortunately this type of Post Master is the rule, not the exception.

The reference I made about the Post Master General saying that the Post Office was conducting exit interviews came from a YOUTUBE video of the Post Master Generals testimony before a United States House Of Representatives Oversite Committee. The PMG said (paraphrase) reasons given for quitting by former Non Career Employees had more to do with poor treatment received from Managers and Supervisors than the lower pay and no benefits provided.

Almost every week someone breaks down in tears in our office.

This is the culture of The USPS

By the way, years ago carriers were given 24 hours training at their office after orientation. With Scanners and Amazon it should be more, not less training than the old days

So, you know the saying,, sink or swim? The p.o. is more like sink and sink and while you're down we'll offer you a glass of water.
Sadly, training is mostly non existent. Depends on the regular. I spend tons and I mean tons of time, my time, helping RCAs. And they are never even mine. But if they stay, they have to cover my rt at some point, so I give the time.
I do sincerely believe that you have to be a self starter, tough cookie , to make a career at the p.o. .... That all being said.. Not sure why you can't retest, although in a short time frame I think it's possible to get hired with the old score.. Talk to the small office PMs and they WILL talk to the one you resigned from,, so a lot rides on their opinion.
Probably not much help, but good luck to you
