How many years an RCA?

The RCA's in our office.........19 years.........17 years.......6 years...........4 years..........3 years..........and 1 1/2 years.

6 years for me........but it seemed like it went fast..........my boys were in high school and I had another job..........on days that I didn't work ...it was a treat.... so went fishing in my little U.S,S. Minnow....more than one time the PM would come get me off the lake to run a route........best years of my life.............never even thought about going full time...........it is funny now but I knew what the job was (well I thought I did...ha ha) and knew it was part time ....so was happy just being Tonto to the Lone Ranger (such a good tag line especially if you drive a Ford Ranger).

My Regular retired the first day he could..........found out later.......he was so abused by the PM and another carrier.........you know some people just don't talk about things like that...............which I have no problem with...........I think if you can tell your story and encourage someone else........go for it.

The job has changed so much over the years (22 as a Regular).....Management pressures the Employees and the Time Standards have been so eroded....it is getting harder to do a quality job in the Evaluated time.

I would so buy back my RCA time.......come on U.S.A. Congress!!!

7 as RCA. 6 as a 5/1 34 hr Aux runner. The 5/1 option worked out as 5/2 covering a REP. Evolved into a 5/4 with REG burning all their time to 0 before retirement the last 2 years. Hit step 12 2 months ago.

The buy back bill is now in Congress hand. My question is what cost? if passed.

1 year trc, 5 years rca (6 years if I get to count my year off on medical leave), when I was trc, I was just a sub for a 2 hour a day aux route. In Jan 13, my trc term was up, and the po was eliminating trc. My office brought me back in as an rca. When I finally got all the paper work taken care of, our main route reg quit, the aux carrier got the main route, and I took over the aux route. 2 years later, the po decided to consolidate offices, they moved 2 smaller town carriers to a mid sized town office ( each of the offices had 2 carriers). The mid sized towns office went from 2 rural and 1 city, to 5 rural, 1 city and an aux. 3 years later, I had an accident in my real full time job, which put me out of work for a year. While on medical leave, an original carrier in the office we moved in with retired, I found out the post office had to hold the route for me for 6 months. When my dr released me, I went regular carrier. Been regular almost 2 months now. Sure is weird going from an aux 18 to a k43 route. And even weirder having Saturday’s off, after working every Saturday for the past 20 years or so....

5 months in as an RCA. Looking to transfer after my 90 working days is up. No future for making regular in my current PO unless a lot of 20 year olds decide to quit.

I do wonder how they would determine the RCA time... would they have to go back and count all of your ACTUAL days worked... or actual HOURS worked... I'm fairly confident they likely wouldn't give me 12 FULL years of credit for part time work...

And the other question is... does this only count toward retirement, or could it be used for other things, like leave earning, or seniority in other matters like pay, or even job bidding??? ?

When cashing in for military buy back they used earnings for the years that are being bought back, they would probably do something along those lines would be my guess.

In a post above I quoted my hours worked as an RCA, I kept records of all my time as a RCA and still do as a Regular on an excel spread sheet. This is the other method that might be used (although less likely). That would be to take your total hours worked divided by 2080 or 40 per week to calculate time served. In my case using this method would return to me 7 years and 24 weeks towards retirement.

I worked an Auxy Rt 5/1 for over 5 years and always subbed K routes... so not sure how many total hours/days/months/years that would turn it to... but, I figure all of that info is located in some postal computer *somewhere*... likely at their main payroll computer...

Will be interesting to see how this shakes out if it passes in to law...

Wow! I'm happy for you! When I went regular I didn't get Saturdays off for a year! I worked a 48k and was only granted 4 days off that year, Monday - Saturday. Yeah, I also broke our state's record for grievances that year.
I was told, that since the original carrier had the route set up to be a Saturday relief day, I had to take it too, and if I wanted it changed, we had to do paper work to get it changed. I’m happy with Saturday’s off. I have a 10 year old daughter that I get on weekends, and she was extatic that I’d finally be able to come get her on Friday evening instead of Saturday afternoon (as I’ve had to do for the past 8 years since my egg donor and I split up).... my baby girl is a daddy’s girl, and she wants to be with me as much as possible, so when I told her she’d be with me Friday night till Sunday night, she was extatic.... so yeah, I had no problem keeping Saturday as a relief day..... lol

My old aux route could be interesting too, to see what I could get back from it.
While I was in transition from trc to rca, it took 4 months for everything to transpire (I hate the post offices computer bidding system, back then (2013) their system wanted my computer to have programs on it that my computer said was way outdated, and my computer wouldn’t install them), so to cover the 4 months, my office brought in a girl who’d subbed there before to cover my away time. When I came back, I walked into the aux route, and the old auxiliary guy asked me “Nicole needs 20 hours a week, other wise, she’s quitting the po, and will just collect unemployment. I’ll give her 1 day a week, if you can give her 2 days, and the office can give her one day (yes, a grievance was eventually filed by clerks over that), that’d get her the 20 hours she wants” I was working a real full time job, doing many 48-60 hour weeeks, so I was good with her doing Monday and tuesdays for me. When the offices consolidated, we talked to our new pm, and she said she’d accommodate all 3 of us as long as higher ups didn’t come down on her. The 3 of us worked very well together as far as time off went, we had it all figured out long before we even talked to the pm about who needed what days off. And it worked great all the way up to my accident in 4/2018.
So my rca time was basically a 4 day a week route for me, with many weeks in that time working all 6 days if one or the other needed off.
So it’d be interesting to see what kind of time I could potentially get back. I do still have all my pay stubs, so I could Talley up all my rca hours I put in over those years.....

? it would be a cash cow.... we would buy that time with/plus interest, straight into the general fund, to be saved for later, NOT..:( everything we do is for this fiscal year.. let the newbies worry about the money/budget with the next congress............

I guess they'll calculate it however they're gonna do it... but with us working the eval system, that could make it interesting... I mean if you subbed a 9 hour route does that count for 9 hours, or 1 day... what about a 6 hour route, 6 hours or 1 day??? So it will be interesting... I suppose they'll calculate and let us know what it comes out to, and what it would cost us to buy it back... with 12 years as an RCA, it should total something for me... probably worth buying back... honestly, I don't think they should charge us any interest, because it's not like it was an option for us to buy it back in the past...
