Sub transferring to neighboring office

PJ

New member
My sub is transferring to a neighboring office. We are not formula. No one is on the RDWL. 4 rural, 1 auxiliary. I now will be forced to work my K day, with Monday as my x day. The RCA that is transferring, will be utilized on my route for the x day. How is this right??
The 3 other RCA's in the office will turn it down, everytime! I know the junior carrier can be forced in first. Even with the 120 letter, if I start working my K day, giving the transferring sub the extra day, management will drag their feet. What are the correct steps to take?

I would sign RDWL and take Code 5. So you will work and get the overtime pay. Most managers hate to pay overtime. I believe hit them hard in the pocketbook/wallet so they will act and get a sub hired.

If you want the Monday off, the Code 3 will give you 50% pay and a day off with regular pay.

Not sure why the other RCA's can turn down running your route on Monday unless they are scheduled on other routes within the office. Unless the RCA transferred in a RMPO affiliated with your office, the in-office RCA's have to be utilized first.

Hopefully others will give you better direction. It just sounds like something is amiss.

FIle the grievance.

You cannot be forced to change your relief day.

You can be required to work your relief day, once the order of consideration is followed.

RDWL should have been posted today. Sign it. It were me, I'd go with DACA 5 if forced in. 6 days is rough, but the ot is nice...and it will hit your PM's budget hard. :devilish:

Sign the RDWL list, my PM brought the list around today. The RDWL should be open until October the 12th. martian is right, I think it helps to hurry the hiring process along. When they are paying you overtime each week it seems to motivate your PM.

My PM ask me to "voluntarily" change my K day from Saturday to Monday just this last Tuesday. I am on the RDWL, why a person would sign the RDWL then "voluntarily" change their K day is beyond me. Told PM NO. Then we had a discussion on some finer points of the Contract, PM said she could force me to "Voluntarily" change my K day. We then discussed the Contract some more, PM then said "I am just trying to get you a day off". I have a RCA assigned to the route, there are RCA's in the office and I have leave days, I don't see the problem with getting a day off. The real story is the RCA doesn't want to work Saturdays.

The RCA job slot for the Route I am assigned to is going to be open soon, I am standing tough, because I know if I voluntarily change my K day and make it easy on the PM the RCA job slot won't be filled until next summer. Been there done that.

If any regular wants to stop their managers from asking them to switch "voluntarily" their relief day to Monday from Saturday, sign up on the RDWL for Saturday and Monday. There is nothing in the contract that prohibits signing up for multiple days on the RDWL. They hate it, but there is nothing they can do about it. Then if you want to switch your day off to another day, you can still be on the RDWL for that day also.

You only sign for your Relief Day, not any other day. If Relief Days change OR you bid to another route in the same delivery unit, the choice moves with you.

RDWL is open for signing from today until OCTOBER 4th, not the 12th. The new list takes effect on the 12th.

Thanks everyone for your input. I prefer to take the Daca 3 with Monday as my x day. One of the reasons my RCA is transferring is because my supervisor likes to split routes through the week, so they are getting green card time, not the routes evaluation. I work this Saturday and was told Monday my route would be split. I asked if you can split it on a Monday, why not a Saturday? His reason was, there are more subs available through the week.

Sounds like some grievances need to be filed on the Splitting of routes.

My sub just transferred and I have been asking all week about working my K day this coming Monday. This afternoon I asked once more and was told the senior carrier volunteered to work their Monday K day. Neither one of us has signed the RDWL. The other carrier has a sub, why am I not allowed to work my route since I’m the junior with no sub?

Since neither regular has signed the RDWL, the first step is to ask for volunteers. I believe this is done based on seniority. If no one volunteers, the junior regular is required to work. This is why the junior regular should sign the RDWL - the junior can be forced to work whenever the senior does not want to work. By signing the RDWL, the junior is given the option of DACA 5. So, my suggestion is to sign the RDWL on Monday.

Well, apparently the senior carrier signed the RDWL Saturday afternoon. Her name was not on the list as of Saturday afternoon when I arrived back at the office but this morning, there it was. It's really pointless for me to sign it now (even though I did) because she still has to option to control when I get to be off or work my K day.

Ok, so I went back and read the Order of Consideration and the senior carrier will NOT be able to control the days I work my K day, totally. According to the OOC, the days have to be rotated.

Splitting routes is for emergency purposes (not able to be scheduled), once it is or could be scheduled it shoud be grieved due to no Rca receiving full pay for that route. In some offices Rca's learn to fix this problem by dragging through the added route and receiving more green card time, one route recently had 18 hours of green card time to do it, in my office.
If there is a regular on the RDWL fir that day, that carrier could file for 150% if their pay for splitting a route instead of working them.

not pointless to sign the list, because carriers on the list are rotated through, so you can still get some saturdays off, and get the ot when you work.. actually it's kind of nice to get a break from working 6 days a week, and get some ot as well. you read it correctly....
