Speaking as an RCA, in my office, RCAs are scheduled to work during the Christmas season to make early morning runs of parcel only. It has been pretty well structured. We have 9 rural routes. The subs are rotated through, based on availability. So we mainly work every other day and one of the weekend days. Each working sub takes about 3 routes worth of parcel and it is mainly the same number of parcels from each route. The PM runs the parcels through the system and we use the copilot feature and a manifest, just like on Amazon days, to run the parcels. We only take a portion of the parcel from each route, not ALL the packages. Usually only the packages that are larger that the regular would have to dismount for. It is all figured so that we come in at around 5:30 am and run the parcel till around 10 am, so that we can use the LLVs. Only down side, is it is usually really cold and dark, but most have gotten themselves headlamps. Good feature to this is that the customers are usually home to get their parcels safely...and most porch pirates aren't up that early! Also, on paper days, we are asked to put up the newspapers for the regulars after we return. All this goes on a green card. If works out well as long as all the trucks make it back without a problem and no one calls out for some reason.

I’m told this is how my office operates during the Christmas season. I’m actually looking forward to working in my office and not having to commute to others every week. Not looking forward to waking up at 4am!
