Retirement Savings Plan

I was just reading about CCA's being able to contribute to a Retirement Savings Plan. Wonder why the NRLCA doesn't offer this to the RCA's. Per usual it seems that the Rural Craft, especially the RCA's, get the short end of the stick. I'm sure that many of the RCA's would love to be able to have that offered to them.

There's a thread in the Off Topic section asking for resolutions for a state convention. This would be great to include. (Also, might improve retention of RCAs.)

They sure as hell need to do something to improve retention of RCA's, and yes that would be one place to start.
A pay raise would certainly help for retention. If you were an rca hired in early 2011 you would be making @ $23/hr An rca hired today, @ $18.25. 9 years later. Cost of living certainly hasn't gone down! Low starting pay, one of the many reasons nobody applies or few stick with it. Multi-tier pay tables suck!

I hereby resolve that the NRLCA should get off their lazy a$$es, and get rural carriers the same pay and benefits that the NALC carriers ALREADY HAVE.... this would be an excellent start, and a GREAT improvement for rurals everywhere... just sayin'... ?

add years as RCA can be bought back as Career for MOU
that would mean alot to rca's that spend 15-20 years with nothing to show for it. when i started, a regular in the office had 18 years as an rca, on an h route, in a tiny town, transferred in and got the largest k, at the time a 48, worked 3 years to get his high 3, and promptly retired. his retirement, proportionately, is higher than what i'll get after 13 years as an rca,( on a k with a regular that was in the air guard, and missed 2+ days a week, plus saturday ), and 25 years as a regular carrier.,

You can always go to an investment firm and start up a Roth IRA. $5,500 max per year.

As a Reg, USPS doesn't really give much to actually retire. You will still need an outside ROTH to reach your limit. So why not just start one now?

I believe that its $6000 per year now with a $1000 catch up if your over 50 years of age.
