• Everyone, please help make our jobs easier and choose the correct category. Thank you

Really sad, angry, frustrated and confused. I'm a mess.

Hehehehe....... you're funny. Looking for more hours and abuse :ROFLMAO:...... OH BOY! Can't wait. The post offices around here are on the small side, expect for the main one that is large, sort of. Don't mine the cold weather, I HATE summer -end of June to late August. My problem is, I need to eat more - a bit of skin and bones. The problem would be the wind. A heavy gust is more likely to blow me over, send me flying down the road.
Inner happiness is great protection. Live long and prosper. Welcome you have survived the hiring process.

Can we encourage any more RCA's to bail. Sad but so true, I even mentioned the same to our new sub. 1} If your not crazy this job is not for you 2) if you don't like working for free this job is not for you. 3) If your don't like the constant demoralizing this job is not for you 4) If you can't see at night this job is not for you 5) If you can't bend over this job is not for you.

I cant see sh*( at night !! Time to go, I wish !!

RCA position on POV routes with Amazon is going to dam near impossible too keep subs especially in rural areas. In 3 years people will no longer get vacation time approved in some places guaranteed.
This is so true. As an RCA doing this in semi-retirement, I'm sticking around to help my reg and office. This job was tough 4 years ago when I began. Since Free Amazon came along, I can't imagine trying to break in a new sub. It seems impossible.

Amazon... MY GOD? Jeff always throw a monkey wrench into everything he does. I was a slave .... I meant an Associate, my bad, at two of his warehouses,...... pardon me, Fulfillment Centers. Though the pay and benefits were good and the overtime pay AND the ability to quit whenever you feel like it, no question asks, my god! Didn't mind the work and driving the PIT, but the atmosphere of that place would anyone to slice their wrist. The ONLY good thing besides the pay and benefits, were your co-workers. The workers was what keep you going back to work and many of them were decent, hardworking, helpful, nice people. Yes, there were assholes and shitty managers who doesn't gives a rat's ass about you, but it was the workers. I would be on PIT for 9 to 10 hours, depends on your shifts - 10/11/12hrs. That was hard on the body. There were older women that would on those things for hours and days until a manager decided to switch labor. It was an overall good experience in modern day Slavery.

I read your post, and all these replies a couple hours ago.
And I guess you can say “I stewed over it the past couple hours”
I won’t disagree with what’s been said, but I’ll give you a different perspective.
I love this job. Absolutely love it.
I started my post office carrier in 2012. As a trc making $13.05 an hour. Working 2 or 3 days a week, on an aux route that was 2 hours a day. I couldn’t survive on 4-6 hours hours a week, so I took a barely better than minus wage factory job.40-60 hours a week, plus post office, I got by. A year later, post office eliminated trc position, so I was essentially fired. However, my office NEEDED a third person, so I was rehired as an rca. The day I returned, our main route regular carrier quit (he had 3 full time jobs. A mail carrier, a full time fire fighter, and a full time farmer, he did it for 10 years, and couldn’t take no more). So our regular aux carrier for the main route, and I walked into getting the aux route to myself.... a year and a half or so later (still working factory job 40-60 hours la week, and the aux route 12 hours a week), 3 local post offices consolidated, 2 offices moved into the 3rd(bigger) office.... once I got established in the new office, I still worked my bull chit factory job, and everyone there (even the pm) understood I was working 50-75 hours a week, and they all worked with me around my schedule. (I worked 2nd shift for a bit, then 3rd shift at the factory so I was available for post office in mornings).... working 2 jobs whooped my azz. Many days, I’d pull 24+ hour days to work both jobs, and try to maintain a family life.... everyone in post office knew I pulled many 24+ hour days with no sleeep, so they worked with me around my 2 jobs.....
Then, 7 years after I started as a trc (temporary route carrier for those who came in after those days)with the post office, I was finally senior rca, and a lady retired.
I was in a horrible accident at the factory (I got run over by a fork lift, both lower leg bones broken, several foot bones broken) this happened in April of 2018. November 2018, carrier retires. I bid on job, thinking I’m still on medical leave from both jobs, so I won’t win. But I found out, po would hold position for 6 months if winning bidder has medical excuse saying they’d be back to full duty in 6 months. My dr agreed I’d be capable in that 6 months. I won the bid, and took those 6 months to finish healing......
I returned full duty in May 2019.
I went from 40-60 hour a week factory job plus an 18 hour a week aux route (aux route re-evaluated higher after we moved to new office) to a k43 full time post office job. The factory ended up firing me for not returning to work after dr released me (like I’d care, I have a k43 route, pays better than both jobs combined)......

Every time I’m having a bad day in the post office, I just think of what it was like working both jobs. Many many many weeks, I’d do 60+ hours at the factory, plus 18 at the post office.
Every time I think I have a bad day, I think of those days, and I realize.....
A bad day at the post office is better than any good day I ever had in the factory.
And every time some1 in the post office starts complaining about how bad it is, I bring up my 40-60+ factory weeks, plus my 18 hour a week post office week. 58-78+ hours a week..... since 2012...... all of a sudden, a bad day in the post office, really isn’t that bad at all.
I’m 50 years old(young?). This is the best job I’ve ever had. I was an ASE certified mechanic, I did construction work, I’ve had several fork lift operator jobs, I’ve worked several factories.ive got an associates degree in it, and I’m 2 semistars away from law enforcement degree (I dropped out back in the mid 90s because I couldn’t do that to my new family)....
Even on my bad days in the post office, this is the best job I’ve ever had.
Even delivering all the Christmas packages because our customers are too lazy to go shopping in a real store.
This is the best job I’ve ever had.
Even when my post master is a complete fool following his bosses directions.....
This is the best job I’ve ever had.

My customers are awsome. (Only had 3 or 4 over the years that were azzes).....
This is the best job I’ve ever had....

As bad as this site portrays it, it’s really a good job.
I will say, being a mail carrier isn’t for everybody, it’s not easy as it sounds...
But if u got it, it’s easy. And it pays well (in most areas, even at table 2)

All I can say, is try it, give it a %100 try. Either u got it, or u don’t.....
It’s way overwhelming at first, but it really does get easier.
But it also takes a lot of time to get to where myself and most on this site are now at.
U will NOT walk into a full time position. U WILL go home everyday frustrated and have a major headache trying to get all these names and numbers and streets......
But if u got it, it really is a good job.....

Did I ever mention.....
This is the best job I’ve ever had....

2-4 hours in office supervised (sorta)
5-6 hours on route, all by myself, no supervision, just driving around, giving people mail and packages, unsupervised....
What more could u ask for?

WOW! Thank U, very very encouraging and motivating. I will remember you and others advice on here. Lessons to me is - quit with the complaining and deal with it.

Hey everyone! Got two CCA job offer today and on the rehire list for the third one (has been over three weeks). Going to take one and go with it. A bit of ways from here, but the traffic would be a lot less. Am open to give it my best, learn and roll with the punches. Whether I love it or not .... or sorta love/hate it at times, I guess I'll find out. Was thinking IF I dislike CCA and wanted to go RCA, then I have the option to apply and go RCA since they seem to need mostly RCA around here...... well, AFTER I get myself a big-ass van that can carry one small PO ?.

Merry Christmas to everyone on here and Wishing you the BEST for 2020‼

Will keep you updated.

Wilson897 -- Best of luck with the CCA position -- RUN with it!!

-- One of the little dirty secrets of the RCA position -- IF the USPS lived up to the contract and each regular route had an RCA - even H and AUX routes, then RCA's would only be working relief days and whenever the regular took annual or sick leave.

-- NO ONE, especially with a family, could survive with working one or two days a pay period for the USPS. ( IMHO )

-- Somewhere there must be a happy medium of filling RCA positions -- but certainly not at Christmas time!

I have always said about a 60% RCA to route ratio will keep everybody happy. If managed properly, everyone will have enough coverage for leave and RCA's will work enough days to keep them happy. The more aggressive RCA's that would like more work can farm themselves out to other offices.

This, or do as I did, and basically kill your self, get a 2nd job working 2nd or 3rd shift to keep your self available for the po in the mornings.....
When I worked both jobs, I always told everybody, “the post office is my full time job (with part time hours), this factory is my part time job (with full time hours). I’m only here buying my time for a full time route to open up, and I’m gone”
One day, the factory sent out a factory wide email, looking for volunteers to do 12-14 hour days hour days (we were already mandated 10 hour days), was already tired (even tho I just got up and was starting the day at 10:30 pm) and hit reply all, and said “sorry, my real job won’t allow me to work 12-14 hours for this part time job”. (I didn’t realize until the next night I hit reply all, when I rechecked my email, there was several replies to me from co workers congratulating me, and a few other reply’s from higher ups that wasn’t so happy with my choice of words) our head hr guy replied “what exactly do you mean by “real job, and this “part time job” do we need to talk soon?”..... my immediate supervisor replied to him before I saw the email (hr sent to me and my immediate supervisor) “ he only means he’s working 2 jobs, and his other job in the am dosnt corispond with the hours we’re asking him to work”.... needless to say, I was embarrassed in one aspect, but happy in another.... there was many laughs between the union workers, and many odd looks from the company people....

Try to find a non-Amazon, UPS, Fedex last mile delivery office for you get no extra pay and no extra POV mileage from the mailbox to the front door!

Now, I MORE afraid of being an RCA than a CCA. Today I had an issue with my Selective Service registration according to HR. I was knee-high-to-a-grasshopper when I signed up. What a way to wake up to USPS HR email about an "issue" that needs to be solved inorder to proceed ahead. In the end, it was fixed by 2pm today. Lordy Lord!

Where I live, the post offices seem hungry for RCAs. See posting all the time. I guess not much folks around here are interested. On the upside, I can rest a sure that I will always have a job waiting.
