Perhaps we're in the same state!I realize this is an old thread but, I'm trying to find how barcodes that can't be scanned will be handled. I'm noticing that I'm having quite a few that the numbers must be typed in. Also, our state sends out certified letters that won't scan. Do we have a way to track this time in the new rrecs system? Surely they have additional time for this time consuming task.

Me and scanner walk to the door, I put package down, scan, hit buttons and only then walk away...You still get paid even if you scan it while walking to the garage right?..I mean it tracks our steps...we get paid by the stop, scan and step...so, theoretically, if you scan a package at your vehicle and walk it to the garage(carrying scanner) its the same as walking to the garage and scanning it when you put it down...semantics....NOTHING changes...distance is the same and scAn credit is the same...what am I missing?
No worries fred! I started these threads so we could all share information and ask questions. I (and others) still watch them, so feel free to ask away!
I've never read or heard officially how unscannable codes will be handled. Here is my best guess:
If you look at the 4241-M comparison in the study results, Reference number 15 (Non Signature "Scan" Items):
1) right now we get .3 minutes (18 seconds) per.
2) Under RRECS: "Scans included in standard for Ind pieces." Which really seems to be a sneaky way of cutting scan time w/o showing exactly what the cuts are.
So I imagine they will say "Each piece has time built in for scans. A certain % of scans are expected to be unscannable and that time is included."
If it were me: I'd start tracking and recording how many unscannble codes I get daily. That way I'd at least have some ammunition to try and get a better time. It looks like they are full speed ahead on RRECS, so it may get here sooner than many of us expected...
I have a business on my route that gets a lot of returns. They are scanned by our clerks onto a firm sheet and we have a signature on file at my case that I use to scan them delivered. After reading through all of the posts, I'm questioning this practice. What would be the correct way for delivery? My office has received little to no information on RREC's and I just stumbled across this page today. Thank you in advance!
Welcome to the site! How did you stumble your way here?
I don't have to deal with many return packages, so I have some questions:
1) What is a firm sheet?
2) You scan the packages delivered while you are at you case?
3) Do you then actually deliver the packages, or does the business pick them up at the PO?
I don't know about having "a signature on file" at the case. Never dealt with anything like that, but seems iffy. Hopefully some other carriers can jump in...
I would be following procedure...
PS Form 3883
Currently customers receiving articles recorded on PS Form 3883, Firm Delivery Receipt for Accountable and Bulk Delivery Mail, must sign and print their name on PS Form 3849 in order to electronically link the signature information to the Firm Delivery Receipt, even though PS Form 3883 has a "Received By" block. In the revised PS Form 3883, the "Received By" block (see Exhibit 1) has been removed in accordance with Handbook PO-610, Signature Capture and Electronic Record Management: Manager's Guide to Standard Operating Procedures. Also, standard information on the revised PS Form 3883 has been updated.

Just curiosity, are you CCA? Mostly city carriers drive pro masters.......I read through this and this isn't anything close to what I am doing..... I don't currently have an immediate supervisor. We deal with the Clerk supervisor or the OIC directly. If I'm reading this correctly, I shouldn't have the signed 3849 at my case and if this was set up correctly I would scan the firm sheet at the business and it would pull the signature that is attached.

Similar to the possibility of the p.o. renting the boxes out to ups, FedEx, etc...if their stuff is in there, and I have a small med parcel...wellllll...its going to the doorIf I have 4 parcels that would fit in the box separately, but not together, I'm making a trip to the door for at least some of them.
Also, some customers don't remove yesterday's items from box. ? ?
I hope RRECS doesn't ding us for that.
Are you delivering at your case or at the business?I re-read the information attached above, and I think that is what I'm doing. I guess the biggest question I have is do I scan the signed 3849 at my case or at the business.
Interesting!I’m a Rural Carrier, but my route consists of cbu’s and business dismounts. The main reason I have a Promaster is the business that has the returns. Since they are closed on Saturday it isn’t unusual for me to have 200+ parcels for them on Monday.
