Broke down

A good piece of advice is don't advertise what you use your vehicle for. I learned that the hard way. I had work done and couldn't get a warranty on it. After that I took all postal items ( COA cards, orange stamp envelopes, etc) out of my vehicle before taking it to be serviced.

I have "life time" warrantees with 4 different part stores. I usually bring the part to the store, not my right hand drive. RHD's are kinda hard to hide what you are using them for. I've replaced 8 half axles, 4 alternators, 3 water pumps, and probably 20 sets of brakes for free.
The reason Subaru stopped making RHD's for US mail carriers is because we ate them up in warrantees. That is also why no company currently does it now. All of this should be "ammo" for our union to use to raise the EMA pay for rural POV carriers.

I would agree that it is tough to hide what you use a RHD vehicle for. I always had a LHD. You seem to be quite the mechanic. Good for you. I remember carriers back in the day would use the old postal jeeps. They always had an extra one for parts and they were always working on them. I never saw the attraction for them.

eomr -- " I never saw the attraction for them [ postal jeeps ].

-- In the "Golden Age" ( for me anyways ) in the mid-1990's as an RCA, we'd fight to get the jeeps the post office owned. Right hand drive, one could really stuff them with mail, and the post office paid for the gas and repairs. Of course that was WBA -- Way Before Amazon!

-- Apparently someone checked our service records and discovered no one had the paperwork for being qualified to drive a postal-owned jeep. So one morning someone from District came to the PO and once we drove a jeep around the parking lot once -- poof -- we were qualified!

-- On the other hand, owning a postal jeep as a POV was an exasperating experience to keep it running as well as finding ( or making ) needed parts. All well and good if one was mechanically inclined or know someone who was. One guy in the office finally gave up on his jeep, drove it to his back yard and used the jeep as a plant stand.

-- But eventually even the USPS recognized the jeeps were becoming unsafe to use and refused to sell old jeeps to rural carriers.

My old DJ-5L would run circles around an LLV any day of the week. It would go anywhere in a blizzard. Started up first try every time. Loved that thing. Gave it to a fellow rural to use as a hunting deer hauler in the woods. 20 years later after sitting, still started right up. Rot got it. So sad. ?

My friend had one and the heater didn't work. She had about a half hour ride to work and in the winter she would come in all bundled up in coveralls and knitted cap. It was a hoot seeing her dressed like that.

wamailmom et al -- "I hear EMA is going down a cent and a half.."

-- Of course, since gas prices have been falling.

-- And when the gas prices spike again down the line, it will take more than awhile for EMA to rise.

My old super drove the Ford Pinto. Considering they could hold like two trays of mail someone please tell me wh the Pao even had them,
