$570 million New scanner contract

i was fishing after work today, when my phone rang. another problem with a touch screen, is punching the screen with gloves on. a real problem for those of us in cold climates.
As noted you can get gloves that are meant to be used with touch screen, not sure if there are ones suitable for your conditions.
Since last scanner I used had one I expect new scanner will include a stylus to be used with it which means if you can do anything besides fight with the gloves you are wearing you should be able to use touchscreen (might be more difficult to hold scanner and use stylus though).
This hopefully is part of that $1900 price tag.

I hope these new scanners will be tough enough so I can use it to bang open the boxes that have a coating of ice.

Thankfully, it doesnt happen often, and of course the subcontractors who bring our mail stay home, while we go to one box and come back, after waiting around for 3-4 hours, then go home !

How about A/C, hand trucks, back braces, muscle relaxers, box trucks with motorized lift gates??? $570 million? $570 million? Damn what size is that rabbit hole? Shouldn't something this pricey go before some kind of arbitrator investigator or something?

There are gloves that are touchscreen friendly. I’m in the south so I am fine with fingerless when it gets frigid for a few days.
Up here in snow belt USA, those touch screen friendly gloves are what we wear in our 70 degree summer days while we go jogging. I don’t think they make a touch screen friendly glove that works when it gets really cold up here. (It snowed today up here, and I’m still wearing shorts..... it’s NOT cold yet, forecast calls for 3-6 inches of snow tomorrow, I still plan on sunbathing tomorrow)..... I’m really wondering what these new scanners will be like when it really DOES get cold up here (-10, -20, -30 Fahrenheit, we see it way to often)..... when it’s that cold, I try not using my phone.... but now I’m going to HAVE to use this new scanner in these cold temps?
Your frigid, I still concider sunbathing weather. I really don’t want fingerless gloves when it REALLY GETS COLD.

Those new scanners were tested in extreme temperatures & supposedly passed the test. The touchscreen gloves I’m talking about are listed as ski gloves & were for sale on Groupon. Not something I need so cannot say how they would perform.

@btdtret and others...

The user manual is free on line. 18 pages of it about blah blah set up. On page 17 you get this about scanning. The TC 72 and TC 77 have the same set up manual.

If one backtracks pages in the link you will have the quick set up info. I also see no stylus for it, so I guess customers can sign with finger. I have customers who sign with finger on the scanner we have now. Also will ours have a SIM card already installed to expand memory?

Now onto another pro and con link regarding this device... Zebra TC77 Android Barcode Scanner Review | Tracerplus

Here is link for available accessories.. Zebra TC72 & TC77 Accessories | PTS Mobile

$77 for a battery , another $70 for an open holster.

I saw the stylus under accessories and the Phaser looking device after my post that was edited due to further queries. Will the clerks have to replace the Pass or Ring scammer for the Phaser device? Maybe not, we might mistake it for an actual gun in office. If they do I hope it is set on Stun mode so I can function later out on the route.

Im bumping this thread.

While having issues with the blue brick scanner today not having any backlight, my stupervisor said new scammers are supposed to be deployed 4/30/20. So be on the lookout. He even said they will be able to use them for calling. I didn't re read
The 59 prior posts. Just wanted to update you all.
