I got in trouble for abandoning my route halfway through my relief day. I went to my specialist doctor's appointment ( who does not do online appointments), which is about two hours away. I've been working for almost four months without a sub now , i need to see my liver doctor every three months, i I just went anyway because my last two leave slips got denied. The clerk hired the two remaining regular carriers to finish my route, now i'm in trouble and have to do an interview with my postmaster who's in another office. I don't know if the district manager is going to be on that call but I will have a union rep on that call. I believe the district manager for my area is eric. I live in northern minnesota , but I can't find the name eric if I google it. So I don't exactly know what is the rank of the manager or or how to look him up? I am scared , I might lose my job , but we don't have any subs to replace me. Any advice thanks.
It would seem to me the absolute worst thing they could do is write you up, especially given the circumstances. I don't think your job is in jeopardy, and if they try to "can" you, head straight for your nearest Senator's office, news outlet, etc with your story, and blow the lid off the place. Call their bluff, and don't take no guff.
 
You will not lose your job, there are many steps between that and the start of your first discipline. The fact you are panicking this hard sounds like you are overworked and have never seen this process. Both are good for this situation if you look for the positives.

First of all this is the pre-You are in trouble- step. Claim you need EAP by the end of the interview if they dont offer it and use it to provide an open History. Answer the questions and try not to give an overabundance of information during your interview. You might (will) get disciplined and you just have to write a grievance for that and have your steward handle it. If you still have documentation, give it to your steward and explain to them the history and background in wiriting with the greivance form filled out.

Lastly, should be filing a grievance for each leave slip denied, give a little more work to the steward. If you have no steward, replace mention with DR or ADR.

I would not go into long detailed explanations, keep it short, and sweet. Yes, no, I dont think so, I dont recall.
I would request it be done in person face to face, as judging po mgmt's intentions are much, much better in person. Talk to your rep before meeting, bring up any questions you have. If this kind of stuff has never happened before, it's highly unlikely you will get fired, if they try that....be ready to go to battle. Very minimum....is likely a write up. Still....do not settle for it, GRIEVE IT, and hopefully it can be dropped down to a verbal warning if this a first offence kind of deal. I've had tons of experience with 🐝🐝🐝- HOLE po mgmt. Yes or no answers are best. I would hope most stewards would get this reduced to a discussion at worst. Do they expect you to deny your medical needs? Asking for EAP is smart - also the first appointment is on the clock without mgmt involvement.

Lucky for you ..... make sure you get paid for the hours you did work (on your relief day).
Since you didn't complete it that is the only time its paid hourly
 
The union should be backing you up with filing grievances for denied leave. There are MANY options available for covering leave. ALL management at the PO tends to be far too lazy to do their due diligence to cover leave even when requested in advance.

I would stand your ground and reiterate that they left you no alternative to address your medical needs.

Nothing major is going to happen. In the future call off sick the day of your appointment and you will find magically they will find coverage. We have to play hardball with these scumbags more now than ever.

Next appointment call your DR and get help with approval for it. You cannot be denied sick leave with a doctor's note, the only exception would be continual abuse of sick leave. You can ASK for AL but you TELL them you're sick.

Follow Gotrope's advice above. That's experience and knowledge advising you.
 
I agree, request in person meeting. Request representation. File grievance(s). File for FMLA. Report this behavior to your Congressman. Request EAP.
Safety depends on you. Your life is in yours and God's hands. Not the USPS.
 
File a grievance and for FMLA. Tell your doctor you are working in a stressful environment and it's contributing to other health issues. Since your pm "claims" they can't find anybody to cover your route, they will be forced to. Good luck.
