74 leave and service time

Does being a 74 count towards your service years? I know you get vacation and sick time. I’ve been on a vacant route for almost two years and soon it will go up for bid. I was just curious about the overall service time.

PTF is the only Leave Replacement position that starts earning Retirement since it is a “Career” position.

No, but I wish it did because it would give me almost 3 more years!

National officer spoke about the House Bill (#2478 I think, not sure without digging out papers) that currently has twenty something cosponsors and needs 290 to get anywhere. They are pleading with us to keep contacting your US Congressman asking for support of this and keep bugging them for a response. The NRLCA website has a pre-written letter you can print out and sign your name to. They suggest sending it to your Representative's local district office at "home" rather than to DC. Links are there to find your Rep's name and addresses. It's worth a try and a 55 cent expenditure!

Overall, it's pretty much doom and gloom about the future of our craft and the USPS in general, so if there's any chance at passing this "buy-back" idea, the rural carriers have to get it in gear and cry the loudest. Of course, the cost to honor this thing will probably mean it is dead on arrival, as the govt never has enough money to go around....and if not moved during this calendar year, when a new Congress convenes the bill will have to start back at zero again to be put forth to a new body.
