I'm on a new route that frequently requires a morning parcel run and I'm wondering if there's a definitive answer to whether I hit the Depart to Route scan when I leave for my parcel run or when I leave to deliver the mail?

Also as far as time compensation I've read we get 2 minutes per mile. So I just notate that on the 4240 correct? Is there a section where the post master enters that when he is inputing my time where he enters it as miles? Or does he have to do the math and enter it as additional minutes per day?

Solution
You really should be performing these AFTER you have completed traditional delivery with mail and the parcels you could accommodate. The compensation for the mileage is now 3 minutes per mile. The loading time for the parcels you could not accommodate which is the second trip is accounted for under loading time and is credited to the evaluation of the route.

The correct process is the 2nd trip. You do that in the afternoon AFTER you have completed the delivery for the day. I don't believe there is any proper way to do it in the morning before you deliver and be compensated for the trip. I know this is always an argument during Christmas.
