Accepted RCA position then offered a CCA position.

Our CCAs are worked to death... taking pivots from Reg City routes, handling collections that must be done in a small window of time, & working some Sundays. The RCAs make more money per hour than the CCAs. Just depends on whether or not the RCAs in the office get hours or not. Be aware that CCAs also have to reapply annually AND take a week off w/o pay Between years.

I worked as a CCA and an RCA I like the rural side better. At first you might have less hours than a CCA. I was worked to death as an CCA it was too much. It all depends on the person I guess but if you go on the city side expect to get back after finishing your route and have to go back out and help others. This sums it up Long hours an ton of work and great paychecks but zero life.

A friend asked me to help her son get some info about working for the Postal Service. I spoke to the PM about what would be best and he recommended CCA because you will go full time faster. This was a couple of years ago but maybe you could ask about it when you are interviewed.

Oh wow I thought that "take a week off thing "was just for PSE's

RCAs that have stayed on are currently getting overworked and underpaid for filling in on routes that don't ever see a primary that stays and the long days following Holidays. I have never seen an RCA that was converted to a PTF...those that have been are in the minority. If you want to work an almost regular schedule, I think you might just be better off going to CCA. If for no other reason, better union representation.

Kddm1229 , What you’re describing is what I was faced with as a RCA. I was hired and told I would get one day a week. That one day went to 6 days ( before 7 days) and some days 10 and 12 hrs.My family knew not to look for me before 6 at night . NO FAMILY TIME , NO REST, NO RESPECT AND NO BENEFITS !!! Meanwhile cca’s are going regular, 10 years later they let me go regular. ???

Grass is greener on the other side..
It's a hard decision to make when you have never even done the job. Both have pros and cons, ask around at your particular station to get an idea.
We both deliver mail but major difference is the mounted vs walking and pay. Evaluated vs hourly.
But, ask about the routes at your station. Could be mounted city routes.......

Not all city routes are walking routes. Some are ALL walking routes, some have portions that are walking and some obviously, have NO walking.
Its pretty safe to assume that CCA's are not using ones own vehicle, as many RCA's will have to supply a vehicle (good luck with that) !

Sandygirl et al - "Oh wow I thought that "take a week off thing "was just for PSE's ."

-- NALC 2016-2019 contract. Appendix B. I - NON-CAREER COMPLEMENT. In part:

- CCA employees shall be hired for terms of 360 calendar days and will have a break in service of 5 days between appointments.

-- RCA's and ARC's are the only craft "assistants" that don't have the break-in-service requirement.
