Annual Leave question

Hey guys ... I have a hold down on an aux route. I have been accumulating leave/sick. So I was approved for leave for last Friday and Saturday. Today I return to work and was told by my PM I couldn't get my leave for Friday because I was in overtime on Thursday.  How can leave not be given if I am in overtime? Leave is always straight time. I'm confused and this sounds all wrong. Is there someone who knows the answer or someone I can call in the post office (HR)? thanks

I called HR and was given a number to someone in my area who has never called me back. At least in my area finding an answer in the PO is impossible or people just give you the answer they want to give you. I did see that part-time flexible employees leave can be not paid out when they reach over 40 hours in a work week. However I'm an RCA (079) with an auxiliary hold down. Isn't that different designation than PTF?

mariomail -- " I'm confused.."

-- So am I! Terminology probably to be blamed.

"I'm an RCA (079) with an auxiliary hold down."

-- "Hold down" is usually a city term used when a carrier is temporarily filling in on a route.

-- The Designation Code 79 is for an RCA who has been assigned by Form 50 to an Auxiliary route. The route belongs to such an RCA. The RCA is not "holding down" the AUX.

"...was told by my PM I couldn't get my leave for Friday because I was in overtime on Thursday."

-- Politely ask your PM for a reference, preferably one you can actually read.

" I did see that part-time flexible employees leave can be not paid out when they reach over 40 hours in a work week."

-- Article 30.2.O addresses PTF/Leave/Overtime -- A part-time flexible rural carrier is only entitled, on a weekly basis, to a combination of leave and evaluated hours equal to the total of one day's evaluation of each of the assigned primary routes. A part-time flexible may not use leave to generate overtime.

-- A PTF is Designation Code 76, as an AUX carrier, you are Designation Code 79.

-- Politely point out the difference in Designation Codes to the PM. If that has no effect, give your Assistant District Representative a call. Hopefully the ADR can get through to the PM.

-- If the PM continues to go with no leave because of overtime, point out to the PM that scheduling is manglement's responsibility. Knowing you had an approved leave slip, manglement could / should have taken you off the route before you went into OT so you could have taken leave.

Oh my goodness. You are not a PTF.  Your actual hours have no bearing on whether you get paid annual/sick or not.<br /><br />You earn, you use it, you get paid.<br /><br />Your PM is either blowing smoke or stupid.<br /><br />You don't get paid, file. a. grievance.

Sorry for the confusion with my words.  This is basically what I found out that I didn't know. My leave should be overtime not straight time. I wasn't aware of that. I was approved leave before hand and have the slip signed etc. The PM has the right to disapprove my leave because of overtime but since he had approved it he must pay it. Tomorrow I'll let him know the deal and if not I file a grievance ... tired of dealing with a PM who is super obsessed with his budget, that's all he talks about.
