Are ARCs Still a Thing?

Are they still hiring people for the ARC position?

In my area, they converted everyone to RCAs almost instantly.

Now they can struggle for shifts like the rest of us...

Those "converted" must have taken the RCA test. They are still "a thing" if mgmt wants to hire for the position but most aren't bothering with it. Maybe due to the limited schedule they are allowed plus it takes hours away from subs on Sundays & holidays.

ARCs have never been hired in our office. We do get RCAs that play "seasonal" through Nov & Dec. Then they go to Academy in January. So far that's happened the past 3 yrs & I suspect it will still happen this season.

ARCs were always a farce.

Union demands extra pay for RCAs doing Sunday work.

USPS says instead they will hire an entire fleet of ARCs to do Sundays.

Union thinks, "Wow, more dues!"

DONE DEAL!

USPS never had to make assurances they would actually hire any ARCs and still don't have to pay extra for all the Sunday work the RCAs are doing.

Good job NRLCA!

And that's EXACTLY how it always works with "deals" between the USPS and NRLCA... the USPS hoodwinks them then laughs all the way to the bank... <img title="Surprised" alt="Surprised" src="https://www.ruralmailtalk.ruralinfo.net/wp-content/sp-resources/forum-smileys/sf-surprised.gif" />

Remember the SPM "deal" we got... <img title="Embarassed" alt="Embarassed" src="https://www.ruralmailtalk.ruralinfo.net/wp-content/sp-resources/forum-smileys/sf-embarassed.gif" />

Time study will be SSDD... <img title="Frown" alt="Frown" src="https://www.ruralmailtalk.ruralinfo.net/wp-content/sp-resources/forum-smileys/sf-frown.gif" />

Our office still has ARC's. They really helped out last Christmas and I'm not sure how it worked but they were allowed to run parcels throughout the week in December, which was awesome and I hope it gets done again this year because the parcels are already getting absurd.

subpar -- "They [ ARC's ] really helped out last Christmas and I’m not sure how it worked but they were allowed to run parcels throughout the week in December, which was awesome and I hope it gets done again this year because the parcels are already getting absurd."

--  Another example of the contract being ignored [ ARC's work only on Saturday, Sunday, and holiday ] and no one seems to be concerned other than it was really helpful regarding carrying parcels.

--  Were the office's RCA's already fully utilized while the ARC's were taking out parcels?

I think they're more like a "Thang"...  whatever that is... <img title="Confused" alt="Confused" src="https://www.ruralmailtalk.ruralinfo.net/wp-content/sp-resources/forum-smileys/sf-confused.gif" />

btdtret- Yes, all RCA's were already being used. Our office is always severely short on RCA's. Last Christmas a couple regulars (both rural and city)had slip and fall incidents that resulted in being off for Christmas...odd timing... but we just didn't have enough help and I know it's going to be the same this year. Our ARC's only ran parcels for any route that needed the additional help. I get that it may be against the contract, but when we were all working 6-7 days a week for 8-10 weeks in a row, we were grateful for any help that we could get!

Our office just hired 8 ARKs   </blockquote>
I am scheduled to train some very soon. They only get one day of training. Not trained to case or sort mail. Just carry parcels and can be used as last resort to deliver mail on Saturday.

We have 6 that only work on sundays and holidays.

Except one that converted from RCA to ARC so she could work somewhere else during the week.

She works Sat and Sun and Holiday.

--  That's certainly a new approach!  What ever works.
