IL is having RCA seminars also. I received my letter today; it was mailed on 8-17. The first seminar was 8-6 - way to be on the ball with that one! I really wish that these were presenting information that is actually helpful to us RCAs. One of the topics mentioned is "Retiring from the Postal Service, what does it include and what you can do now to make it better." - REALLY? Give us RCAs some access to retirement options maybe? Or, I don't know, discuss something that ACTUALLY pertains to RCAs at an RCA seminar...
So the union wants me to drive at least 3 hours from my home (the closest seminar location to me, except they didn't notify me of these fabulous meetings until after the one closest to me was over) on an Sunday, to "gain knowledge that will assist you in your career." I would be laughing if it weren't so sad.
As RCAs the union treats us as second-class workers. But I'm sure we're all happy to drive hours to listen to someone read a PowerPoint presentation, letting us know about our "career" that includes no sick days, no paid holidays, no way to participate in the TSP, and we have to wait years and years to become full-time carriers (even though many of us are working full time hours for the vast majority of our RCA time).
Add to that the insult of the PMG's "keep RCAs at all costs." Does the union stand up for those of us that work our asses off? Not that I've seen yet. Our "keep at all costs" RCAs are slow, inaccurate, get to choose what routes/days they want to work, get to leave accountable items in the office without taking them to the street, aren't even required to take all of the mail/parcels for their route and face absolutely no disciplinary action. But hey, they've got a warm body and nobody (regular or RCA) is getting OT.
