Aux route for RCA is a joke (RANT)

ATCBigE

Well-known member
Started an aux route after RCA retired from it.

Nov 9 was started date. Since then I have earned a whole 2.75 days off. Last pay period earned a whole .12 (Because I got pulled off my route so much)

Still working 6 days a week, but continuous getting yanked off of it to work other routes at least 2-3 times a week because we are so shorthanded. When 2 routes with POV take off, I am pulled off and the sub who doesn't have a POV works my route.

It is SUCH A JOKE that I ONLY earn AL & SL working my route, but yet I am still working 6 days a week. I have never seen a more screwed up position or screwed up way of things happening. You work 6 days a week getting thrown around everywhere, but YET only earn PTO when you were your certain route.

Will union fix this in next contract? Doubtful because they don't care about part time workers.

-- Either you or your Assistant District Representative should bring manglement's attention to Article 30.2.G.5. some time -- sooner rather than later:

- AFTER COMPLETION OF THE ASSIGNED AUXILIARY ROUTE or the primary route assignment, a leave replacement assigned to serve the auxiliary route may be utilized on any other auxiliary route, or serve as a leave replacement or provide auxiliary assistance on any regular route.

-- Have your ADR ask manglement what part of "AFTER COMPLETION OF THE ASSIGNED AUXILIARY ROUTE" manglement doesn't understand.

-- Have you grieved being pulled off the AUX to work other routes?

I haven't grieved (Not member of union). I just realize how stupid the position & I have no problem being pulled here and there, but this has gotten so old fast because can't even build any PTO.

Plus I don't know if it matter that we are so shorthanded.

They do represent members and nonmembers alike, problem being, they don't do it very well...

Route in the office has 100+ addresses that are not on their case. Regular knows they will be cut if they add 1 more, so they jackpot a new apt building. Super has been holding the edit books for months. Carrier claims they are unable to add addresses, without edit book,, super claims route is not overburdened till carrier adds new deliveries. Sub bitches, but nothing is done. Union has been of no help. Near as I can tell, both the super and the carrier are stealing wages by not doing their jobs. Aux route is getting screwed daily, as there might be enough for them to go full-time.

That is a blatant violation of the contract. Not only do you only earn on the Aux route, you only earn 1 hr for every 20 ACTUAL hours that you work on the Aux. File your Grievance. You can assist other routes AFTER your Aux route but not “instead”. Whoever is running your Aux should be doing the route you keep getting pulled off to work.
AND no is your answer to the Union “fixing” the “no benefits earned except on the assigned route”. By contract, you should be working the Aux EVERY day & gaining benefits daily from the Aux. Any work after the Aux is extra pay.

But the issue is we have 2 subs not including me. One subs doesn't have a POV. They can't deny leave because of aux route right?

So if 2 carriers take off with POV, the one RCA doesn't have a car so I get pulled because of it.

Not your problem get that paid leave time grieve if forced to work another route besides your aux. now if they ask you to help after aux that’s a diff story.

I am also an AUX regular and I feel your pain. I always do my AUX route first before helping with any other route. The AUX route generates 1 hour of AL and SL per 20 hours of driving. Your 2.75 equals 22 hours of leave as 1.0 is for 8 hours. Good luck and be safe!

This isn't even that. I'm getting pulled off because we are so short of subs that when regulars want a day off I get yanked off if multiple people want off since I still have POV.

So example schedule for this week was released last week. We have 3 RCA including myself. One regular carrier has been taking Wednesday off as X day (no sub). Another carrier took Wednesday off with doc appt. So one RCA worked her route she is sub on. I got yanked off my aux to work the guy's X day (since I have POV and other RCA doesn't have vehicle and isn't required since he works a LLV route).

I understand crap happens and don't have issue working here and there off my aux, but when I'm working off 3-4 times a week it gets old.

My biggest complaint about working an AUX route is that I do not get any paid holidays! I work 6 days per week every week and 7 days a week during the Christmas rush and don't qualify for holiday pay!!!

This also is huge complaint of mine.

We work like regular and should get those benefits.

The manager gets paid to hire more subs, do the schedule, and make the other hires get POVs.
Don't make their problems your problems.

You have a legitimate grievance, file it and be made whole.
Maybe management will then start to do their jobs.

Issue is they have posted the jobs multiple times (I believe 4-5 times, I don't keep track) and haven't had anyone apply.

Again I don't mind working off my route here and there. Extra money, which I could use, and not just the 800 bucks for 2 weeks.

It is just getting to the point where I just need to file because obviously I am not going to ever build any leave time at all.

Sometimes you have to make them listen by filing. You have a aux. They have to let you finish your route first. , then use you somewhere else. It’s the bosses job to make other sub get a car. As someone else said that is not your fault. The boss must do his job. It’s time for you to stand up for yourself.

I say do the paper work as well but keep in mind cause I know you will have a ? on your back so make sure your ducks are in a lined up. Life as you know it will change. They will know who has a set and not to mess with, but will be looking for stuff to torment with as well.
Stay strong though they will move on to the next after awhile.

Mgmt should be requiring that sub to get a POV. It’s a requirement of the RCA position. Every time mgmt DIRECT ORDERS you to run a route INSTEAD of your own, file a grievance.

It isn't a requirement though if you work a LLV route to have a POV. They can't force him to get POV.

Actually it is in our job description to have a POV to work as an rca. I understand the primary of that rca has an llv but it doesn’t change the fact it’s a requirement to be hired. Management ok them not having one there for it’s management problem. your aux route comes first. After you finish aux if they need help or for you to run another route then you can for the extra$. Keep in mind both combined cannot exceed 12 hrs evaluated time or that’s another grievance.
