Aux Route Question.

When does an RCA become a designation 79?

Is it after their 90 days on the route?

If an RCA who has just been awarded an auxiliary route (this week) would they be a designation 79?

I read where RCA's running Aux routes will be paid ONLY for the hours actually worked on that route and not the evaluated hours. Does this apply to ALL RCA's or just those that are Designation 79? Christmas Period Quiz

-- No -- see above.

"I read where RCA’s running Aux routes will be paid ONLY for the hours actually worked on that route and not the evaluated hours. "

-- Actual hours for AUX carriers during the Christmas No-Overtime Period.

-- Other RCA's have the route's evaluation or green card if providing assistance elsewhere.

So I guess that an RCA who is not a designation 79 yet ( because it hasn't been 90 days) would get evaluated hours on the route during the Christmas No OT. Am I correct? I need clarification since the Christmas period starts in 2 days.

This Link does not mention Designnation 79 https://www.ruralinfo.net/important-points-about-the-2017-christmas-overtime-period-for-rural-carriers.html

It says: LEAVE REPLACEMENTS

1. Aux route carriers serving any auxiliary route are compensated at the hourly rate for actual hours worked during the Christmas OT period. During this period, carriers are not paid the evaluation of the route. Overtime is paid only when the carrier exceeds 40 hours for the week.

2. If you are an RCA not in any one of the situations above, NOTHING CHANGES for you. You will be paid the same as you are paid all year long. You will be paid evaluation of the routes you work unless you go over 40 hours in the week. Then you will be paid hourly.

Any leave replacement working on an auxiliary route will be paid ACTUAL hours during Christmas OT period. period. LOL

Article 9.2.K.1.e Rural Carriers Working Auxiliary Routes
Rural carriers performing service on an auxiliary route
shall be compensated on the basis of hours actually
worked in accordance with Article 8.3.

Cliff, call your DR for clarification.

Until you get an answer, work your full daily evaluation. :)

I have a call in to him but haven't heard back. Thanks Oi veh

They didn't pay evaluated time for me during the Holiday 3 Weeks. I am a (designation 78) RCA and the union said that I will only be paid hourly and not evaluated. So I just slowed my ass down and ran over evaluation daily.

Whoever told you that you'd be hourly regardless was wrong. Only RCAs running Aux routes are affected by Christmas OT Period. If you were paid hourly it was because you went over 40 hours or were on a green card.

I am newly assigned to a very small auxiliary route. The DR & the ADR both said that I will only be paid hourly, which I was.

Since I can very easily run the aux route way under evaluation for the week, I just had to stay out there longer to at least get the evaluated time.

Sorry, didn't go back to see that you're on an Aux. Good job working the system! ?
