Auxiliary 5 and 1 Option Question

So confusing. I think the problem is with management and here is my thoughts...

The carrier on hold down saw an opportunity with the aux opening up and went off the K route. That carrier shouldn't have been given the option to have the hold down route as their 1 in the 5/1. The route should've gone to whomever was #2 on the matrix for that route. Or the matrix should've been re done with the shuffling and IF no one chose the hold down THEN the 5/1 could choose it.

Am I missing something besides a lack of common sense?
I just made post #20 explaining what actually happened from talking to the sub and PM. The sub chose the K for now and wants to keep making money on the vacant route but have the security of having the aux as her primary just in case the regular comes back to the route. Once the rgular comes back she'll choose the 5 and 1. I'm not sure if this is allowable or not.

Not trying to hijack thread here but need input from the community. I think there is something wrong going on in my office on a hold down.

Senior RCA (Aux runner) has been and still running their Primary REG route at the RMPO for almost 2 months now. This REG carrier will be out at least another 3-5 months.

In this span this Senior RCA has been working 1 day a week in the APO on their AUX. This 1 day is the fulltime RMPO routes assigned day off. When they cover their AUX for the day they send the RCA who has been covering the APO AUX run to cover the RMPO run. Another thing here... This RCA covering the RMPO run is running it under it's EVAL for 5 days and would stay under if they did it 6 days.

It does not seem correct to me. Shouldn't the hold down be for 6 days? Management is telling them its ok and are giving them more time off for 1 day week by them running the 3 hr daily AUX run.

Her plan is to ask the regular come in and work at least once every 90 days in order to keep the "vacant" route and have the aux as her primary until she becomes regular."

-- Something sounds rotten which is not in Denmark!

-- What is the regular carrier doing out of the office for long periods of time? 204b? Or sick/injured?

-- Form 50's take a while to be generated and sent out - although the effective date will be listed.

-- Maybe your office steward, or if none, your Assistant District Representative should be the one talking to manglement as you seem to have an interest in the possible outcome.

Got it right with Hold Down in Paradise. Office run by a Prince Charming.

No parcel madness. By day 5 they claim still 8 hrs under. The REG was doing the same.

For clarification purposes... Does this 1 day a week AUX coverage effect the 90 day rule for AL/SL purposes?

I understand as an AUX runner they get AL/SL for their run but when they cover their Primary for a random day or week now and then. AL/SL are a throw away for them for more Jingle in pocket exchange.

I doubt REG will be back.

The regular is out on 204b at a different office. The regular and the sub are friends so yes the subs plan to keep the K route does seem like they are trying to take advantage of a loophole in the contract. Thanks for the advice.

So if the regular comes back for even one day, the RCA is no longer allowed to be in leave earning status and they get bumped back to a Des 78. When the regular leaves again, the 90 calendar days start over and on the 91st day, they go back in leave earning status. Since the RCA has declined the Aux route, it’s all yours if you’re next in line.

If there is a route in that office that does not have a regular at the moment, it needs to be offered to the RCAs for a chance to make it their primary and start holding it down. If management has not done this, file a grievance. I won $2000 because management failed to offer up a route where the regular was gone for a year and was just having random RCAs run it. They should offer it up by seniority and if that RCA wants it, he’d have to give up the Aux route.

Okay so after talking to the sub and talking to managent I've found out the sub chose the K route and is asking the regular to come back for a day or two before the 90 days are up so she can go back to a designation 78 and be able to choose the 5 and 1 option and keep the vacant K route and the aux. Her plan is to ask the regular come in and work atleast once every 90 days in order to keep the "vacant" route and have the aux as her primary until she becomes regular. Is there anything I can do as the sub behind her? Has she already given up the aux route since she wasn't allowed to do the 5/1 option and chose the K or does she still have 90 days until it becomes effective? Sorry for all the confusion I just feel like I'm getting cheated out of a route.
File a Grievance & let the Union Rep investigate this Sweetheart Deal she was trying to make! Mgmt is supposed to bid a Primary as soon as possible which & quit trying to play “Let’s Make A Deal“. If she was never assigned to the Aux route, she has ZERO claim to reverting to the Aux route. If she was actually assigned to the Aux, she would have been moved back to Des. 78 & must wait the 90-Day period before being changed to Des. 79 or 74.
ALSO... the Regular coming back to their route every 90 days resets her 90-Day period & she will never get back to Leave Earning. She only would earn “leave” when Day 91 of continuous service arrives & only On the route that she ends up on.

I met with my union rep and postmaster today and they sided with the other employee. They claim she was able to accept the 5 and 1 option because her designation changed to 78 when she accepted the Aux route. She is still running the vacant route everyday. They also did not have a problem with the regular coming back to the route once every 90 days so she can keep the vacant route and the Aux route but she won't be able to earn leave. Would it be worth it to contact the regional Union Rep and file a grievance?

Talk to your District Rep. If she accepted the Aux route, she runs the Aux route 5 days and the reg route one day. Now that the reg route has been vacated by the regular, management has to offer it up to RCAs. The regular coming back once every 90 days just screws the RCA holding the route down because they will never get a chance to earn leave.

To throw a wrench in your scenarios, I would think the regular would return every 30 days.

Otherwise their pay would adjust from their evaluated rate.

No the Aux route just came open. How should I go about proving that this letter is legit? Should it be enough to just show the union rep and postmaster?
Just print it. It’s a step 4 settlement. Still file the grievance. You’re entitled to backpay because whichever route you end up with is the one you would have been running if management did their job right.

I will definitely file a grievance for backpay.
