Here's the situation: I'm a RCA. This week I'm carrying a route that is not my primary, but my secondary route. There is no primary RCA for it. I was made to take yesterday off so that I wouldn't end up in OT, even though I could carry it 6 days and stay under 40. I agreed to take the day off so I wouldn't have to deliver the food drive bags which were sitting outside of the case Monday afternoon, ready to go out Tuesday (my day off). So I go in this morning and they're sitting right there, untouched. PM comes up to me and says that she didn't realize that the other RCA left them there and talked to the other RCA about it. The other supposedly said that she didn't know what they were or that they needed to go out. Personally, I think PM knew how slow the other RCA is and didn't want to make her carry the bags. So I took them out and delivered them.

I've grown tired of having crap held and dumped on me. So I want to be paid an hour. The regs in the office tell me that they've gotten paid an hour and a half in similar situations, so an hour seems more than fair. PM is refusing because I was still under evaluation. I've dug up the step 4 concerning a full day of relief as it applies to RCA's but I'm looking for something that applies better.

I'm not really into making an issue of this, but after a short text message conversation with my PM, I think it's time to make a point. I've given enough free time over the last several months that I'll take a little back when I can.

heyman1104 -- Never a dull moment at the post office, especially when the Food Drive rolls around.

--  Obviously manglement is not doing their job by checking cases to see if anything that should have gone was left ( food bags, in this case ).

--  From the 14 MARCH 2014 USPS letter from Cathy M. Perron, Manager, Contract Administration ( NRLCA ) to the NRLCA president --  in part:   If the rural carrier assigned to the route on the day designated for the food drive does not volunteer to participate and there are not other volunteers available to pick up food on the rural route, the promotional mailing should not be delivered.

--  Too late at this date, but should have told the PM if you don't get a "full day's relief" to deliver the bags. than you won't be "volunteering" to pick up food items on Saturday.  Something to remember for next year.

--  The proverbial fly in the ointment -- the bags are 1st class mail, so if ordered to deliver them, best to do so -- then smile and file.

The real problem you have is you should have been paid for the evaluation of your route for six days, and not required to take the day off. If you were going to work under 40 for the six days your pm owes you another day of pay. You,  as the next carrier on the matrix, are entitled to all the week's work if able to work under 40 hours. If you worked over 40 in 5 days, you are still entitled to work up to the evaluation of the route.

Yeah I thought about that but it's just that I feel like I'm getting the royal screw here. Getting screwed out of the days work and still being stuck with the worst part of it
