I'm going to be frank:
RCAs get a raw deal.

1) Not on call, but yeah, basically on call
2) Few guaranteed hours
3) OR too many hours and worked into the ground
4) Amazon flippin' Sundays
5) etc.

Unfortunately, these problems are beyond my ability to fix. Please believe me: I would if I could.

BUT there is something I can do, to hopefully take a little bit of the "suck" out of being an RCA.

I think providing a POV can be a real financial burden for an RCA.
And I hate to even think of an RCA neglecting their brakes (arguably the most important part of the car) to save a few dimes.

That's right! I want to help pay for your brakes.

How it works:
Post "brakes4subs" in this thread.
I'll set aside a little chunk of my EMA.
Every paycheck I'll choose 2 RCAs at random and give them a $25 gift certificate to RockAuto.
(Depending on participation and whether or not I hit the lottery, these numbers might change)

Who is eligible:
RCAs (and ARCs too)
Who drive POV routes
Are active members of this forum
--EDIT-- Haven't won in the past year --/EDIT--
And post "brakes4subs" in this thread.

Is this a scam:
No. I'm using Rock Auto because their gift card is just a number. It is completely anonymous. I don't need (or want) to know any of your personal details.
I'll private message you the number, and you use it when you check out. Easy peasy and, again, completely anonymous.

Are you (C$$) worried about fraud:
Not really. I've already written this money off. So you won't be cheating me.
YOU'LL BE CHEATING AN RCA OUT OF BRAKE COMPONENTS.
So if you can sleep at night with that on your conscience, then sleep tight you beautiful sociopath. Odds are you would figure out a way to get my money anyhow.

Do you have to buy brake parts with the gift certificate:
No. I would prefer is you used the money for brake pads, shoes, rotors, calipers, etc. (It's often a good idea to have a spare set of brake pads lying around for your POV). But it is fine if you use the money for some other critical car repair. Just don't buy something ridiculous, like spinner rims (unless they are REALLY wicked, then ok).

Wow C$$, you must be a saint/idiot/hopeless idealist/spendthrift/etc.
Probably a little bit of all of those things :)
And while I welcome the criticism and/or praise, do it in a different thread:

PLEASE LIMIT DISCUSSION IN THIS THREAD TO RCAs WANTING BRAKE MONEY

tl;dr
RCAs post "brakes4subs" below to get a chance at a $25 dollar gift card

Thanks for the tips!

But please, keep this thread clear, except for subs looking for brake $$.

It will make my bookkeeping much easier, kapeesh?

Thanks again! (y)

*Carquest/autozone carry lifetime brakes. A hack we exploit here.

In my small town of 1 chain and 1 independent store. They quickly caught onto the lifetime brake replacement. Word spread I was a commercial driver in my POV days and the lifetime does not cover commercial drivers. So I started to buy them on line for less.

For you POV drivers... Learn or find someone who can replace your brakes for less than a shop. Plenty of vids out there for your ride. It takes me about an HR + to change over a complete set front or back brakes at one time for my daily commuter. My rate for others is $30 per hour.

Need to add: If they wait until the brakes are squalling like fighting cats, they'll no doubt at least need the rotors turned if not replaced.

C$ Thank you so much, yesterday broke down on route, some unknown illness with Jeep makes it start missing, have changed so much recently Jeep based on codes, yesterday before broke down, got flat, went flat in about 30 seconds, had a nifty floor jack and battery operated impact wrench so was back on the road within 10 or 15 min. Then about 2 hours Jeep starts missing so bad have to limp home and get spare vehicle. I am gonna buy pads now and put up for when needed. Thank you for truly "getting it". I am also talking to all subs tomorrow to inform them of this site and how helpful it is in ALL aspect. Thanks again....

Just wanted to chime in and say you're awesome for doing this. Best of luck going forward. It's nice for us subs to be thought about. Thank you to all the regulars who go out of the way for new and old subs. And thank you to the subs that help new subs starting out.
