CAN A RURAL PTF BE ASSIGNED 5 DAYS....and some other stuff

As the title states. I have seen 2 K routes assigned as a minimum in some rural manual. Can a PTF get assigned 5 k routes to them if it does not exceed 40 hours in a work week?

Also, If on an assigned route and the regular goes on vacation does the PTF hold down the route?

Mgmt can assign 2-5 K routes to a PTF String regardless of “40 hours”.

Also, If on an assigned route and the regular goes on vacation does the PTF hold down the route?

A PTF can “hold down” a Regular route when a Regular Carrier is on extended leave. It is at mgmts discretion. A PTF is only guaranteed the TOTAL HOURS of the combination of the “String“ route evaluations. They are not even guaranteed the actual routes on that ”String”.

Can a PTF be Utilized every single day

Yes. Mgmt can work them as often as they want so long as an RCA is not ”bumped” from their Primary route assignment (Unless the RCA is over the weekly eval for the route). Mgmt can even work that PTF on Sunday Amazon or over an RCA’s Secondary or Tertiary route.

5? The one in my office is 6-7 days and is loving the OT. He also took my advice and slowed down. 60 ish hours a week. He needs a new route vehicle desperately and the USPS is helping pay the cost.

They can use you exactly as they would an rca. That doesn't change. I held down my primary route for over a year and a half (finally filled now). If it's one of your two routes, chances are you would hold one down for the duration of the absence while someone else covers your secondary... but as stated, that's up to management.

My PTFs work 6 days but are only assigned to 4 routes. My district won’t allow more than 4 on a String.
