Can I be forced to work another route if my Primary is available?

I've been out with my 2nd hand surgery for a couple weeks. I go back in on saturday. During this time my Primary route regular got injured on the job and is out for a while. I got a call today from another RCA that next week I am scheduled to work a different route on 2 days.

The reason is that I am the only person who knows this other route besides the regular. But that should not be my problem. I should be entitled to run my Primary route as long as the regular is not available.

If they refuse to let me work my Primary route what recourse do I have?

You have the right to work your Primary up to the Route’s Evaluated hours. You cannot be bumped except by the Regular Carrier. Mgmt CAN send you home once you’ve reached those hours & have you off that next day. I.E.: if your primary is a 44k, mgmt must allow you to work 44 hours before having another RCA finish your route or give you a “Relief Day”.

FILE a grievance if mgmt refuses to follow the Contract on this.

Also, keep track of your 90 calendar days while your Regular is out. On day 91, let mgmt know that you are due a Designation change to leave-earning status.
