Can I be forced to work city.

Apparently everyone on the city side is either sick or injured. The PM has been having me and the other RCA work on the city side. I work a 31 hour Aux 6 days a week and have no interest in helping the city guys. The other RCA doesnt mind helping them. Is there anything I can do to not have to work yet still allow the other RCA to continue to help them. I dont want to knock him out of hours.

You can voluntary tell management you do not want to be apart of helping city unless given a direct order. If the do give a direct order to run city, I would inform management that you are a rural carrier and do not fall under city side. Run the route and let management know of your intent to file a grievance for being made to cross crafts. Document the entire situation and contact a steward in your area to file a grievance. I would mention that as part of the settlement that for the instance forced to run a city route and any other that may occur the RCAs be paid at time and a half. Simply for being forced to run routes not normal to them and crossing crafts. City carriers will obviously file and get paid for every minute you worked on a city route.

When I was an RCA and only getting one day a week they asked me on a few occasion to help get some city carriers in because they didn't have anyone.I did it, needed the money, about four times in a two week period and then the city filed a grievance and from my understanding they got paid for those days I worked as did I.

As a long timer on higher pay table a random observation for both hauling crafts.
Perhaps the 2nd pay table a big whoopsie for both crafts in an effort finding people to fill the need?
Will not venture to the time served.

-- You can politely ask not to be used on city routes.

-- BUT as long as the NRLCA mantra is: Obey a direct order, then grieve. Not much else to be done -- aside from informing the city steward who should grieve in a heart beat and get some city carrier or other CCA also paid for the work that you do.

-- Double pay for the same route usually gets some bean counter's attention, either at Eagan or District.
