Can I switch from a 6/0 to 5/1?

I have been 6/0 aux for two years. Would like to change to 5/1. Steward is telling me I must wait until regular carrier is out 30 days to switch. Is this correct?

Hi and welcome to RI!

An AUX route doesn't have a Regular Carrier it but you know that because you have been one for two years. So I'm assuming that you are talking about the Regular Carrier on a different route. If a Regular Carrier is going to be out long term and you are trying to change one day to that route there shouldn't be a waiting period. If you are trying to do that to become the primary RCA for a vacant route (without an RCA) you must be senior RCA in the office and than you would have to relinquish the aux position. If this doesn't answer your question we need more details to better assist you!
