Changing X day

In our office every time the formula has been “reworked”, or however you word it, supervisor would go around afterwards and ask based on seniority and down if the regular wanted to change their relief day or keep it the same. Recently we just went through this and are now being told we may not change our day we are stuck with the day we are on and the relief day stays with the route for good. This has always happened at our office for over 20 years and now all of a sudden it is stopping - I am also finally a regular so I am stuck with the day the previous regular picked. Can they really do this? Is there a way to grieve this? My union rep is telling me I can’t grieve it but if this is the way it’s always been done in the office I don’t see why or how they can just stop it now. Can I grieve it for past practice?

The Formula is to be recalculated when you lose a sub or gain a sub (after fully trained). The “Formula” calculates the MAXIMUM # of NON-Saturday Relief Days. If there are Too many weekday Reliefs or if 1 of those days has more Relief Day Carriers than on Saturday, a grievance can be filed. If the Formula shows a loss of Saturdays, THAT cannot be grieved as there is no violation in keeping more Saturdays.
