Covid and filling out 3971 as RCA

So a little confused about the leave slip for Covid as an RCA. Not feeling well and getting tested for Covid tomorrow and I want to take the special paid leave for it.

The instructions seem a little unclear, as if I should fill it out before taking leave. Considering I need to quarantine for awhile that makes filling out a request hard to do in person. Do i print one off at home and mail it in or wait and fill it out when I get back?

Also it says 80 hours of leave does that include if it comes back negative? How many work days would that be then - 10 calendar days or something else?

Not really getting along with management in my office at the moment, so not feeling they would be very helpful.

I email my leave slips to the PO.... do an online 3971 and email it to your stupe or PM.... you can get a read/received receipt on the email....

Ok... going through same situation. Could not fill out PS 3971 in person. Also, relationship not there, but this is an emergency. Call PM/Sup because they will have to input codes for COVID, which have changed by the way! If it is negative, then as a RCA you get negative leave ( unless you have/are earning leave). As far as days, it is calendar days. For me it w was the day of first exposure, so I’m assuming it would be day results come back. Go somewhere to get fast results. If you do get the leave, a nurse associated with USPS will contact you ( if your management does it correctly). Also, a lot depends on state you live and its COVID orders at the time. Emailing is a good idea I didn't think of that.

How many days off do you get with a negative test result? Is it the same 10 calendar days or when the test comes back negative? I would like to take the full amount as my health has not been great the past couple weeks and Im sure ill still have some symptoms going on in a few days when I get the test back.

You need to test positive or be told from a medical professional that you are to self quarantine.
