denied leave request

Does supervisor have any responsibility to let someone know when an annual leave request is denied for lack of coverage, that only part of the time is lacking coverage? For example, put in a request for 8 days of leave, first 4 days no coverage is available. for the rest of the leave requested, there is an RCA available.
Total leave denied. No word that some of it may have been available.

Is super correct in that he bears no responsibility to let carrier know that some but not all of that time would have been open for leave?

There are never no RCAs available. Management refuses to look outside their office. The union should be pursuing a remedy to this that documents every RCA in a 50 mile radius certifying that they are not available. Too many good employees are barely surviving on the crumbs tossed to them because various management don't like each other or are too lazy to hunt for help while denying leave is their easy option.

There are too many loopholes, they should attempt to explain that and work it out with you but that would require them to be skilled at their jobs.

It's too late, it was this past week that I could have had off but wasn't told until yesterday that it was available. His actual reply when pressed on why he didn't tell me, "because you didn't submit a new leave request." Well yeah, my mind-reading ability has been slipping lately.

Grievance is coming. along with several others - including why the only RCA is being assigned to the J-route non-relief Saturdays while the K-route is forced to work those days.

Whenever Leave is denied, discuss with mgmt why it is denied then file a grievance is an agreement cannot be reached. This is when mgmt would disclose that some days are available.

If the 14 days have passed since the denied Leave, no grievance is viable regardless of availability or not.

Too many carriers in my office just take mgmt’s word that there’s no availability. We have a Local Steward in my office & they have been able to get mine approved even after mgmt denied other carriers that did not File.
