It is mandatory for a RCA with designation 74 to assist in other route casing or carrying?

Where in the contract?

rca32 -- "It is mandatory for a RCA with designation 74 to assist in other route casing or carrying?  Where in the contract?"

--  Refresher:  Designation 74 -- RCA ( Designation 78 ) appointed via Form 50 after serving full time on a vacant regular route in excess of 90 calendar days.  Earn annual and sick leave when working assigned vacant route.

--  Mandatory??  Probably not as the RCA would no doubt getting in to OT by the of the work week, not to mention no scheduling an RCA for 12 or more hours of work ( Step 4 ( R-96 )) even though the contract allows for leave replacements ( no specific designation denoted ) to perform duties in addition to the route assignment on Page 50.

--  There would be the Order of Consideration to follow.

--  Any PTF if the office would normally be called upon first.

--  The new contract provided for AUX carriers to be assigned to assist on any other route - AFTER - completing their route.  Page 49.

--  Although ARC's are not supposed to work MON-FRI, manglement might use Article 3 ( Management Rights ) to have ARC's provide assistance - in an "emergency" situation.

Is it right....No!!  But splitting routes and helping out a new sub(s) is a normal part of being an RCA.

I did it as a step 74 RCA.  And so did my co-RCA's

Ran afternoon Express and Amazon Sundays too.

Worked something like 37 days straight. Many days were over 10 hours and a few over 12.

Sucked, but did what I was told and got the job done. (Bitching and Whining the whole time ;-) )

Dog got fed late and I missed a bunch of Sunday football games.

Made some good $$$ those years.

BS

So is the PTF usually considered first in order of seniority on the matrix to assist , parcel help etc ?  </blockquote>
Assisting & Parcel runs are not by seniority in particular. Whoever knows the route that's in need of assistance or someone who is back first can be sent back out to help. Scheduling parcel runners SHOULD be by seniority of those peeps that would otherwise be off so long as it isn't their 7th day (rule in my district) & doesn't put them over 40 with consideration to other scheduled days. PTF is top seniority as to RCAs but mgmt doesn't have to work them more than their string if their string is 4 routes. Mgmt can use them on a 2nd or 3rd matrixed route instead of parcel running, but mgmt doesn't have to. Matrix & seniority is for routes, not for "extra work". Common sense says to use the RCAs by seniority.

My old sub, call him Turtle, has been getting assistance whether he wants it or not. Turtle just bitches about it since it forces actual hours instead of evaluation hours. I can't say as to if this is keeping him under eval or not. He'd be stupid to complain if he's working over. So now Next week Turtle is only scheduled 2 days yet people below him are scheduled more due to parcel running. If he filed a grievance, I doubt it would fly.

Yep, you have to provide auxillary assistance on other aux or regular routes, if needed. It was added in this last contract. Article 30.2.G.

Article 30.2.G deals with aux routes and des 79, not 74.

G. Filling an Auxiliary Route

30.2.G.5  After completion of the assigned auxiliary route or
primary route assignment, <span style="text-decoration: underline">a leave replacement</span>
<span style="text-decoration: underline">assigned to serve the auxiliary route</span> may be utilized
on any other auxiliary route or may provide auxiliary
assistance on any regular route.

This is the one that deals with all other leave replacement categories.............    It's been in the contract since 92 when I first read it.

Article 30.2.Q. Additional Duties
Leave replacements may be required to perform duties in
addition to the route assignment; such as, auxiliary assistance
on other routes, express mail duties, etc. When performing
additional duties, the leave replacement will receive
compensation at the hourly rate, in addition to the daily
evaluated hours for the assigned route.

I argued that point. In the contract is states since the Aux carrier is not on the matrix , they are no longer a Leave Replacement . In the current contract wording it says leave replacements assigned to the Aux routes. So , current contract should not apply to Aux Designated 79 ( forget the number )  , 6/0 Formula offices ?

Des 79 RCA's are still considered leave replacements.

Auxiliary Carriers Des 77 ( people hired specifically to run aux routes prior to 1983? I think) are NOT leave replacements.

I think that is the confusing point here.   Leave replacement assigned to aux route is a term to signify RCA's and Sub 73's are being referred to in article 30.2.G
