Designation 79 RCA giving aux help to regular routes

MVC

New member
Hello, long time lurker but first time posting. I have been an RCA for 11 years. Im in a level 20 office with 8ks all 45s, 1L and 1 aux rt which I hold down as a 6/0. All being POV. I give package aux help to the other routes in my office 5 to 6 days a week. My question is, the language in the contract that states something about the same rt(s) getting aux help every day due to POV NOT being big enough for rt volume will get a bigger vehicle or get cut... what is the unions position on this exactly? One carrier will beat me back to the office from their rt because im taking packages that they leave because they dont want to go there for various reasons... ie... half mile driveways etc. They do not fill their vehicle up saying they arent putting anything on top of their mail in the back seat. My PM is out of the office and an OIC with control issues has come in and demands I see him everyday to make sure I dont have anything else I need to do. Shouldnt aux help be "occasionally" and not 6 days a week? Any clarification would be greatly appreciated.

Based upon the step 4 decisions, the only position is can't force regular carrier to buy bigger vehicle.  There are options such as cutting route, making 2nd trip, making 2nd trip part of evaluation, putting a government vehicle on route, or even providing auxiliary assistance.  They can "ask" the carrier to buy a bigger vehicle, but if they refuse, any and all above solutions are available to management to manage as they see fit.As to you providing assistance, that is new language in  2015-2018 contract. I would either enjoy the extra work or file a grievance and maybe they will cut the routes and make the auxiliary route regular.   It would benefit  you if you become career, but some carriers might disagree and make things miserable for you such as making you work every relief day instead of being on RDWL or volunteering.
