bcarp18 -- " I’ve been trying to apply for a DSI position and have run into issues because I’m a rural carrier. Didn’t know if anyone had any suggestions on how to go about this. "

-- Just a minor issue in going the Driving Safety Instructor position -- you will be transferred permanently to the clerk craft ( APWU ).
-- From a message put out by the National Board back in May of 2019:
- It is NOT a part of our bargaining unit and provides NO OPPORTUNITY to return to the rural craft. ( unless you resign and reapply to be a rural carrier )

What kind of issues? Also just be aware:
"Rural carriers who apply for the Full-Time DSI position are also cautioned that, upon your acceptance of the position, YOU WILL BE TRANSFERRED PERMANENTLY TO THE CLERK CRAFT. You will relinquish your rural route with no recourse. You will not be able to transfer back to the rural carrier craft without resigning and being re-hired as an RCA or ARC. You will be represented by the APWU."
