Enntitled to a day off

As a RCA running a hold down route am I entitled to being able to come in to a clean case after another sub runs my route on my day off?

I know regulars are entitled to have a complete day off... meaning they should not have to clean up their case because the sub just dumped the mail on the case after the sub ran the route.

Shouldn't I as a RCA running the route as ahold down be entitled to the same treatment.

Supervisor says no......

Bet you would probably love to see the supervisor come in Monday morning to a train wreck of a desk that the 204b left behind. Karma.

I certainly would.

Print and fling on stupe's desk. Then smile and file.

I know I've come to be known somewhat as a sub basher, but I actually am a basher of any worker who doesn't do their job. If there is a carrier, sub or regular, that is leaving work for someone else to do for them it shouldn't be tolerated. Never is it proper for anyone to leave work for another carrier unless there are some circumstances that prevented the normal delivery of the mail, weather, fire etc. Even when these circumstances occur it doesn't mean the next carrier has to do their days work and the work of the previous carrier, without additional pay. If some boxes weren't able to be delivered due to weather then it is expected that the next carrier would deliver the extra load the next day, but if there is a large # of deliveries that need to be delivered the next day the carrier should be paid extra or given auxiliary help to do that extra work. However, work that is left because the carrier was "behind/had a bad day etc." should not be tolerated. The way that any carrier, that is having trouble with work being left by the previous carrier, stops that from being done, is to ask for pay for the extra time you take doing that extra work. You only have a grievance after management refuses to pay or give aux help to cover the time it takes you to do the extra work, when this happens file away.

I explain it this way to my managers, "We are piece work people (the pieces for one day's work) and when we get more pieces (portions of another day) we get more money. You wouldn't think of going to your mechanic's shop asking for a brake job and coming back and asking why didn't you do the shocks also for the same price? That would be ridiculous, as it is ridiculous for you to expect me to do the work you allowed to be left for me with no extra compensation". If you talk slowly enough, often even supervisors can come to understand this, but if they don't, they will after you win your grievance.

Thank You Oi veh that is exactly what I needed.

How should I word the grievance? This is my first time to do this.

While I am not sure of the proper way to word this grievance, there are many more knowledgeable people on here, such as Oi veh, that will chime in and answer this for you.

By the way, welcome to Rural Mail Talk.

Stay tuned and you will learn a lot, which will help you from being screw over by manglement.

-- Best to ask the office steward or if none, contact the Assistant District Representative for your area.

-- Ask one of the carriers in the office for contact info for the ADR.

-- Or you can find it yourself by going to the home page for the NRLCA and scrolling down. Steward info on the left side of the page.

"Why is management not providing me with a full day of relief?"

Please do as bt suggested and see who your lawyer (stew) is.

Also, go to the knowledgebase and look up "grievance" - there is a step by step outline. :)

(Actually, here: http://www.knowledgebase.ruralinfo.net/kb/ps-form-8191-step-1-grievance-form-with-instructions/ But still go over to the knowledgebase...there's a ton of info there.)
