Following orders = losing job?

The person in question definitely wasn't actually happy to see me, pretty sure they wanted to kill me in that moment.

The same day I went back to work, the ADR left me a voicemail letting me know the PM was aware of my situation, and I was told by manglement that "the only reason I'm back is because the PM decided to give me another chance"

Today I was scheduled to come in to do another shadow day for what seemed like nothing, I spent the better half of the day talking to the regular carrier for a route I've done before and just explained to her what happened, When we got back to the station I overheard her telling the manager that "he's fine, I don't see an issue" type of deal. Seemed like an easy "freebie" kind of day. Maybe a stipulation made by someone else to get me back on the schedule..

I'm just gonna make sure that the PM actually hears my side of the story, because since then I've heard nothing but lies about my side.

Any questionable commands by management are going to be written down on paper and signed by them. It's crazy to me how stuff like this gets around so much, I've limited my communications about this to just strictly here and people/management from other stations already know about my situation and are on my side of it so it can't hurt.

I feel like as long as I'm at the station I'm at, I'm forever going to be a target for this, if and when I make it past my 90, it's gonna be time to get the hell out of there. But until then I'm just gonna keep my mouth shut and do my job as I have been. It's a real b!tch and a half that I went 9 days straight without any work, and I'm pretty sure I would've had more than just my guaranteed 1 day.

Update:

Well I got terminated before my 90, Long story short I had been followed multiple times and this one last time I got out of the truck and forgot to turn it off, genuine mistake, I tried to correct it after a couple of steps but it was too late for me, they had what they wanted since the incident. Not sure how to feel or what to do about it. Not sure I can even go back seeing as they didn't even let me resign. If there is one thing I'm glad I don't have to see managements faces anymore.

Several in our office refuse to shut engines off... Ever. In fear they wont start back up again. Work 6 days a week, be there all damn day waiting for a truck. Sorry your office sucks

My question is why is a new RCA thrown on a route they don't know while still in probation and expected to deliver everything in less time than the route's evaluation? Just asking?

Programming your brain to do the one HUGE thing you needed to follow is tough. It’s something that has to stick from day one. Sorry you had to learn it the hard way. On that same topic, the newly minted delivery supervisor in my old office was notorious for doing it. She was a rural carrier in our office, AND the rural academy trainer. She WAS, IS, and always WILL BE a shameless liar about it, as well as other things. Maybe the incredible cell phone videos I have of her leaving her LLV running, hopping out, walking from the parking lot of a hotel to go inside, gone to the office retrieving the mail, and returning would be fun to send to the district now that I’m retired haha. ( would guess since chances are pretty good she follows this forum so haha, yes sweet pea, that’s you, your truck, and it’s February, below zero, exhaust blowin out the back haha ). Same for the bank next door haha. “My LLV never runs right when it’s cold , blah blah blah” is your excuse you say? Same videos in July too haha. Got loads. Maybe on second thought, these videos could be motivation for you to change your ways and manage without being a jackass haha. My point here is that the biggest mgt. losers, are always the craft employees who broke all the rules.

GiraffeAE86 -- "Well I got terminated before my 90.... Not sure how to feel or what to do about it."

-- Pretty obvious they were out to get you. Despite the PMG's edict.

-- Take it as a positive Karma sign. Feel relieved. You got a look behind the curtain and don't have to put up with what goes on behind the front counter at the post office an more -- without putting in a lot of time.

-- Change continues to be in the wind for the post office and not for the better, IMHO.

-- If asked about previous employment, just say it wasn't a good fit.

-- I suspect the PM's have their own "grape vine" communication system, so I wouldn't plan on applying to other post offices your area.

-- You've been given your freedom, make the most of it. Good luck.

If you like this job, don't give up yet. Immediately go to a nearby office and ask the pm there (since all offices are sub short these days) if they would allow you to transfer into that office. Tell them they would be saving $10,000 off their office budget and probably get kudos from the district manager. It is worth a try.
If nothing else works, MAKE THEM FIRE YOU. Don't redign, no matter what they say. You can collect unemployment (which hurts them more) .

If you like this job, don't give up yet.

They already handed me a letter with the subject "Notice of Termination during Probationary Period"

I mean, that is pretty much the nail in the coffin eh? If this is actually possible it would be insane because I've worked at the other offices here and they treat you like royalty compared to the one I was at, it was like night and day.

I was smoking my primary too, hitting eval and finishing before my regular consistently like he said I would. Just when things started to fall into place, but damn I really, really don't like the management there.

I can honestly see where the saying "going postal" comes from now. They escorted me out to my car like I was going to do something crazy.

Contact your Poom (Postal operations manager). Even if these managers are jerks, your Poom may not be. It is possible, if you haven't seen a notice of removal with the POOM's name on it, that you actually haven't been fired. Some managers, like the type you are working with, have been caught acting like an employee has been fired, and even giving out a letter such as you have received, then they have reported to their manager,( POOM) that the employee in question has stopped showing up for work, and they have filled out a resignation letter for you. They were probably going to try this the last time when you weren't "scheduled" for 9 days, before your steward was involved. They are allowed to fill out a resignation letter in a case where the employee just stopped showing up, but in your case it will be a lie. Contact your union district rep., and the POOM. Your steward will check to see that all protocols were followed correctly in the event that you are actually under 90 work days(these days include your orientation, LLV, and academy training) and will also check to see that the POOM was contacted and asked for permission to fire you. Wouldn't it be nice, even if your firing actually "sticks", that your current managers get caught doing wrong and everyone knowing it.

Had a very seasoned (40 years with the USPS) PM tell me one time "if Management wants to get rid of you.........they can.......the USPS has so many rules.....I can guarantee you break some rule everyday you didn't even know existed." So I was told that in the first few months of being a RCA........thought what have I got myself into? So that is when I started my quest to become knowledgeable about my chosen craft. Read everything I could....603, Contract and manuals ....but it was only when I found this website with all the awesome Rural Carriers who come on and take their time to educate others.......all the information available here.....that I really felt empowered. You are only one abusive or mentally ill PM or Supervisor away from having a bad work environment. If that happens, the only thing you will have going for you is your knowledge about your craft

Update:

I randomly went through my liteblue and found out my union dues started on this pay check that is coming on the 14th (5/25 to 6/7). The incident happened on 6/4 which is my last recorded day of work and I got the letter on 6/7 (which I'm sure I'm not getting paid for) Long story short I got a letter of termination during probationary period outside of my probationary period. I tried to file my first grievance and they are refusing to sign it. Do I still have a case?

And so the plot thickens.

Probationary Period is 90 actual days worked or 1 year, whichever comes first.
If you were past your probationary period, then file the grievance. Mgmt should date & initial by 3b but if they refuse, note to the side that “Mgmt refused” & date. Make 2 copies and give one to mgmt & one for yourself. The original goes to your Union Rep so notify them ASAP. The Union only has 10 days to meet or extend. Also document what happened including your efforts to remedy the situation & when filing. The Union Rep will be asking for a written statement so do it now while it’s still “fresh”.

GiraffeAE86 -- " Long story short I got a letter of termination during probationary period outside of my probationary period."

-- Confusing! Probationary period is 90 work-days or one calendar year, which ever comes first.

-- When did your 90th work day happen?

-- Once you complete your probationary period, the union can really represent you.

-- If you were basically told "You're fired." prior to your 90th work day, but did not get the termination letter after your 90th work day, probably don't have a case. Check with your office steward, if none, then your Assistant District Representative.

-- Manglement refusing to sign the grievance form is not unusual. Just note on the form "Management refuse to sign."

My last day worked was on the 7th which was the day they handed me the letter during me casing the mail and told me to leave, I'm sure they didn't count it as a day worked because I don't see it on my paystub (roughly 2 hours). My last full day was on 6/4 (letter of termination was dated for 6/5), so it had to happen somewhere between 5/25 and 6/4.

Honestly I stopped counting after they let me stew for 9 days.

I got a union steward from a different station to leave the original on my station steward's case and she's going to deal with it sometime this evening. I got a feeling the reason they didn't want to sign is because they know they f'd up. :devilish:

What I'd like to know is what's the next step after they refuse to sign it for my steward. Does it go to the labor board? What happens to me at that point?

Probation, as previously mentioned, is 90 actual days worked. You stated in the op on March 23rd that you have been an RCA for about a month.

Unless you've worked almost every day it looks like you may be S.O.L.

I went and looked at that.. I was a bit off, I had to be almost 2 months at that point. If anything maybe I meant a month worked? Original hire date was Feb 2nd and that's according to my email and PS 50.

Has there ever been an instance where dues come out of someones pay before their 90? Because they definitely came out of my pay. If no, then I shouldn't be SOL, right?
