So I was part of that wave of cuts that came down about a year ago and will be frozen until September. Now as of a few months ago, the postal service in their neverending quest for revenue made a deal with Walgreens (at least through the entirety of our local area which is 4 separate D.U.s that I am aware of of which my route was the first to begin doing this) to stop in and pick up A) local prescriptions and B) outgoing parcels for normal national distribution then scan the pickup barcode that was printed off for me much like our blue boxes. I'm not sure if this was a national initiative or what but I was one of the recipients of this new pickup which was now being mandated by our highest authorities.
Now I've done it long enough to realize that this pickup (because of the 700+ ft footage, the many different things I need to do, people I need to wait on which I add as 4-7 minutes on our daily sheet during the mini count, and the multiple trips I need to make) literally never takes less than 13-15 minutes every single day, as much as 20-30 minutes, and probably has an average of about 18 minutes for all the days I've picked up thus far. Not to mention this stop is literally bunched in with blue boxes and other such dismounts meaning it cannot be missed, if that scan is not done at eod then the closing supervisor has to run over there and do the pickup or our postmaster will literally be getting a call either that night or the next morning to be berated, yelled at, and told how horrible they are for not doing that single scan (standard procedure for mgmt telecoms by all appearances). So gist of the story: a year ago Walgreens was street mailbox for me and a quick in and out mounted delivery with a package every now and then, now it is a 15+ minute 700+ ft daily mandated dismount for which I have received 0 compensation.
As we all know, 15 min a day can add up to quite a bit in terms of our evals but currently my pay on my frozen 43k went up a grand total of 0. I thought we had a way of increasing time on frozen routes for newly built subdivisions and I honestly don't see the difference between that and this: added time is added time and like I said this isn't a simple in and out. Will I be able to make the case for some kind of back pay over this pickup or somehow grieve the fact that this is quite a bit of work that was literally dumped on me by our highest authorities with 0 compensation? Or is it just "wait for September?" Or simply put is this worth bringing up with the union?
